What does ABI mean?

Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) is the ratio of the blood pressure in the lower legs (ankles) to the blood pressure in the arms (brachial arteries).
ABI is a non-invasive medical test that compares the blood pressure in the upper and lower limbs. It is used to assess the circulation in the lower limbs, particularly the legs.

ABI > 1.0: An ABI of greater than 1.0 suggests that the blood pressure in the ankles is higher than in the arms. This could be a sign of stiffened arteries or calcification.
ABI = 1.0: An ABI of 1.0 is considered normal and indicates that the blood pressure in the arms and ankles is similar.
ABI < 1.0: A lower ABI indicates reduced blood flow to the legs, which can be a sign of Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD).
