Il se fait notamment connaître durant les confinements liés à la pandémie de COVID-19 sur
TikTok où sa chanson Upside Down devient virale en 2021. Son premier album, This Is What Feels
Like (Vol. 1-4), atteint la 40e place du Billboard 2003, tandis que la chanson Golden Hour (en)
atteint la 10e place du Billboard Hot 100.
Biographie
Jeunesse (2001-2020)
Jacob Dodge Lawson né à Providence, dans le Rhode Island le 3 mars 20014. Fils d'un
professeur de musique et d'un pasteur, il commence à prendre des cours de piano très jeune,
chante et écrit des chansons pour son église5,6. Avant d'être transféré au lycée public de sa ville
natale de Cranston, Lawson a fréquenté une école catholique7. Il étudie au Community College of
Rhode Island pendant un an et demi avant d'abandonner ses études pour se consacrer à la
musique à plein temps8.
Carrière (depuis 2020)
En 2020, pendant les confinements liés à la pandémie de COVID-19, Lawson et sa famille
rejoigne le réseau social TikTok. Après une première période de création de vidéos variés comme
des sketches, Lawson annonce son premier single; Upside Down7,9. La chanson devient
populaire, ce qui a conduit Charlie Puth à approcher Lawson pour un remix10.
En janvier 2021, Lawson annonce lors d'un live sur Instagram, qu'il collabore avec Galantis sur
une chanson; Dandelion (en)11.
Le 15 juillet 2022, Lawson sort Golden Hour (en), une chanson que lui et son frère Zac Lawson
ont écrite, produite et fait le montage du clip vidéo12. C'est sa première chanson à figurer dans
les charts Billboard, ce qui lui a valu une attention mondiale et des invitations à apparaître dans
des émissions de télévision. Golden Hour fait ses débuts au Billboard Hot 100 à la 71e place et a
culminé à la 10e place13,14,15. La chanson atteint la 19e place du UK Singles Chart16.
En octobre 2022 il est nommé « MTV Push Artist » et interprète Golden Hour en direct au Tonight
Show avec Jimmy Fallon.
Le 17 novembre 2022, il annonce sa première tournée aux États-Unis17.
Le 8 décembre 2022, Lawson sort Hero, une collaboration avec Martin Garrix et le jeu de cartes
mobile Marvel Snap18,19.
En 2023, Lawson est en featuring sur le morceau , Angel Pt. 1 (en) une chanson de Kodak Black
et NLE Choppa en collaboration avec Jimin et Muni Long20. La chanson fait partie de la bande
originale du film Fast and Furious 10.
Le 28 septembre 2023, Lawson sort un nouveau single, This Is What Space Feels Like, via un SMS
avec une vidéo envoyé aux fans qui se sont inscrits pour recevoir ses SMS21.
