Abbreviations
The standard knitting abbreviations are given on
the inside front cover of every Knitting Guide.
‘Special abbreviations for this pattern:
M1 = make 1 st by picking up horizontal loop
lying between st just worked and following st
and working into back of it.
@Note
When working from chart use a separate ball of
yarn for each colour area worked, twist yarns
‘together on wrong side at joins to avoid making
ahole and where necessary strand yarn loosely
across wrong side of work over not more than 5
sts at a time to keep fabric elastic.
Stitch pattern
METHOD
Legs (make 4)
With 34mm needles and MC, cast on 21[23:25]
‘sts and work in single rib as follows:
4st row (RS) K1, * P1, K1, rep from * toend.
2nd row P1, * K1, P1, rep from * to end.
Rep these 2 rows twice more and then the 1st
row again.
Next row (inc row) Rib 1[2:3] * M1, rib 1, M1,
rib 2, rep from * to last 2[3:4] sts, M1, rib to
end. 34[36:38] sts.
Change to 4mm needles and work straight in
st st until leg measures 23[24:26]cm from cast-
on edge ending with a WS row.
Leave sts on a stitch holder.
Back
** Working across one leg section and with RS.
facing, K across 34[36:38] sts, turn and cast on
77:9] sts, turn and K across the 34[36:38] sts
of a second leg. 75[79:85] sts.
Work 3[3:5] more rows in st st ending with a WS
row.
Now dec 1 st at both ends of next row and then
every foll Ath row until 67[71:75] sts rem.
Now cont straight in st stuntil Back measures
65[8:9]cm from centre cast-on sts, ending with

Join leg and side seams to markers, using back
St for st st and top stitch for ribbed pieces.
Straps (make 2)
With 3%mm needles and MC, cast on 9 sts and
work in single rib as follows:
‘Ast row K1, *K1, P1, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
2nd row K1, * P1, K1, rep from * toend.
Rep these 2 rows until strap, when slightly
stretched, fits along one side of front bib. Stitch
into position and cont to work in rib until Strapmeasures 26[27:28]cm or 1cm less than
required length, ending with a 2nd rib row.
Next row (buttonhole row) Rib 3, K2 tog tbl,
yfwd, rib to end.
Cont in rib for a further 6 rows. Cast off ribwise.
Buttonbands (make 2)
Cast on and work in rib as given for straps until
work, when slightly stretched, fits up side of
opening from markers to top edge. Cast off
ribwise. Sew in position on Back.
Mark positions for 3 buttons on the band, first
and third to be 1cm from either end, remaining
button in centre.
Buttonhole bands (make 2)
Work as given for Buttonband but making
buttonholes to match markers as follows:
Buttonhole row Rib 3, K2 tog tbl, yfwd, rib to
end.
TO COMPLETE
Sew bands to sides of Front, sl st bands
together along lower edges to secure to main
piece.
Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes
on sides, and sew 2 buttons on back to
correspond with buttonholes on straps.
Press according to ball band instructions.
