5 Late Intermediate Piano Duets in Dance Styles

Over a decade has passed since the release of Dances for Two, Books 1 and 2. In that time
I have taught all the duets in those two books on multiple occasions. I have also had the
joy of hearing them performed by students in the U.S., Canada, and Japan. Invariably,
the rhythmic foundation of the music gives the players a freshness and energy that
invigorates their performances. I have been thrilled to witness and hear the wonders of
these two international languages – music and dance – fuse and result in instant, joyful
communication between performers and audience. In addition to the bond between
performers and audience, one of the most rewarding bonds of musical communication
can be found between the two people playing duets together. The connection between
the members of duet teams is one that leads not only to immediate musical camaraderie,
but also often results in lifetime friendships.
I am greatly rewarded to have the opportunity to bring out Dances for Two, Book 3.
I hope that teachers and students around the world will find this collection a welcome
addition to their musical lives.
