ACID BASE TITRATION
(Determination of strength of unknown HCl solution by NaOH solution)
Co
Theory:
ing
eer
An acid–base titration is the determination of the concentration of an acid or base by
exactly neutralizing the acid or base with an acid or base of known concentration. This
gin
allows for quantitative analysis of the concentration of an unknown acid or base solution. It
makes use of the neutralization reaction that occurs between acids and bases.

7. Analyte or titrand (solution of unknown concentration of HCl)
Ne
Method:
Burette is filled up with given NaOH solution .10 ml of HCl solution is pipetted
out in each conical flask. One drop of phenolphthalein indicator is added in the
solution of conical flask. The solution of the conical remain colourless. It is titrated
with the NaOH solution. At the end point the colour will be light pink.
Reaction:
HCl (aq) + NaOH(aq)=NaCl + H2O

We know,
V1 × S1 = V2 × S2
S1= V2 × S2/V1
