2. Operating Instructions
accessories), mount the support on the unit according to Fig.2. The eiectricai jack of the weighting
scale should be piugged into receptacle 17. Before that disconnect the shortcut connector 18.
• Mark recovery bottie with the relevant refrigerant inside. Use correct bottie on refrigerant systern to
be recovered. Mixture of refrigerants cao cause serious system failures when being refused. In case
you wish to return mixture of refrigerants, the refrigerant has to be destroyed or distilled via a very
special procedure. In both cases high extra costs can be expected.
The MAXI-R unit is equipped with a safety device allowing you to recover directly iiquid refrigerant.
This feature works automatically and aliows you to connect the unit safely to your refrigeration system at
any point availabie.
• Connect your MAXI-R unit with the help of a charging hose to the system to be recovered, Other side
of the hose goes to inlet connection 3 on the Maxi-R. In case the refrigerant in the system to be
recovered is very much contaminated (for instance after a buro out of the compressor) extra burn out
filter should be mounted on the inlet hose.
• Retract the supporting foot 19 and mount the balance beam with the support 20 onto the pin 12.
Suspend the spring balance 16 between balance arm and the grip 13, suspend a recovery bottie onto
the vacant arm. Plug the balance cable with connector into the receptacle 17 (Fig. 1 and 2), Before
that unplug the shortcut connector 18. (Fig. 1).
• Connect the second hose to the outlet 4 and liquid outlet on the vessel valve (red). Adjust the balance
rider to the value corresponding to value of 75% of maximum allowed fliling of the bottie for used
refrigerant. Suspend the spring balance so as the recovery bottle is completely free and between the
lowest edge and the base is at least 15 cm. The scale balance will automatically switch the recovery
unit off as soon as the set value has been reached.
• Make sure bali valves 9, 10 and “M” are in the “normal” position (Position A).
• Open all the valves necessary between the Maxi-R and the recovery bottie.
-5-
Starting of MAXI-R33 (compressor PROMAX AMPROBE)
• Put the switch 6 in the ON position. Green light will be put on. Afterwards press the start button 8 for
1 to 2 seconds, than release. 1f the compressor does not start immediately, repeat the procedure after
short time.
• 1f the compressor does not start from a few (2-3) attempts, verify pressure differential between
suction and discharge pressure. 1f the differential is bigger than 8 bar, that might lead to start up
problems of the compressor. To climinate this pressure differential you can switch bali valve 9 in
position B “Start”. As soon as the pressure differential is smaller than 5 bar, restart the compressor
and put the bali valve 9 back in the normal position.
2~L2 Recovery
• Recovery of liquid and/or vapour refrigerant will run now. During operation you will hear the
compressor running continuously and intermediate you will notice the solenoid valve opening and
closing. The more liquid refrigerant, the longer the cycles will be and if nearly all refrigerant is out
you will not notice any switching of the solenoid valve anyrnore.
• Continue the recovery until your suction prcssure on low pressure manometer reaches 0,6 bar
(absolute) (see En 378-4, 6-3.2). Vacuum bas been reached. Reaching that value lasts usually longer.
After reaching the required value, close all valves between the refrigerant systern and Maxi-R (first on
suction side, then on discharging side), put the main switch in the 0FF position and disconnect the
charging hose from the refrigerant system.
Warning: 1f during operation one of LEDs (7a or 7b) is lighted up, the unit has stopped for following
possible reason (see Fig. 1):
LED 7a —red: Lights up when the overpressure circuit breaker with the button RESET is activated.
Check the pressure on gauge 2, 1f the pressure is above 34 bar, the unit can stop by itself.
Note: 1f the overpressure circuit breaker is activated, then after removing the high pressure on the
discharging side, it is necessary to press RESET button. In sorne models the RESET button is placed
under the red cover secured with a screw.
LED 7h yellow: Lights up when the prcset value on the spring balancc has been reached. This is a
—
safety protection to avoid overfilling of the refrigerant bottle. (Spring balance must be preset correctly!)
When the spring balance is not connected to Maxi-R, the special shortcut connector 18 supplied with the
unit has to be piugged in the receptacle 17 in order to let the unit run. 1f this connector is not plugged in
correctly, the yellow LED lights up.
-6-
3~ Recovery procedure in Push/puII method (see Fig. 3 and 4)
This recovery method offers you the possibility to recover liquid refrigerant at a very high flow rate (up to
380 kg/hour). It can be used when a system to be recovered has one of the following features:
(A) Equipped with a liquid receiver that can be isolated in the system, a vapour connection at the top and
a liquid connection at the bottorn. Typical connection would be as follows in Fig. 3. The recovery
bottie must be equipped with Y-valve (or another two-way valve).
Fig~3
Push all refrigerant in the systern with the help of the system compressor in the liquid receiver.
~ Connect the unit to the system to be recovered according to Fig. 3 (blue valve 21 on bottie to the
inlet 3 on Maxi-R, the red valve 22 on bottie to the liquid valve 23 on liquid receiver). Connect
discharging outiet 4 to gas valve 26 on receiver.
~ Make sure the bali valve 25 on the system is closed.
~ Check if bali valves 9 and 10 on Maxi-R (Fig. 1) are in the normal position (Position A).
Open following valves in succession: 22, 23,26 and 21.
Switch Maxi-R on. The procedure described in Paragraph 2.1.1 must be foilowed.
~ When the unit is running, it takes vapour refrigerant Out of the refrigerant bottie and discharges this
refrigerant at a higher pressure into the liquid receiver. Since this higher pressure is transferrcd
through the vapour connection, it will apply a force on top of liquid refrigerant. This force will
push the refrigerant out of the liquid receiver through connection 4 directly into the recovery bottie.
Recovery of the liquid refrigerant will happen now at a very high flow rate.
_7..
(B) The liquid receiver is equipped with the connection at liquid side and the valve on receiver’s outlet
(Fig.4)
Fig.4
Push all refrigerant in the system with the help of the system compressor in the liquid receiver,
~. Connect the unit to the system to be recovered according to Fig. 4 (blue valve 21 on bottie to the
inlet 3 on Maxi-R, the red valve 22 on bottie to the liquid valve 23 on liquid receiver. Connect
discharging outiet 4 to gas valve 26 on receiver.
• Make sure that bali valves 25 and 27 on the system are closed.
• Check ifbali valves 9, 10 and “M~ on Maxi-R (Fig.l) are in the normal position (Position A).
• Open the following valves in succession: 22, 23, 26 and 21.
o Switch Maxi-R on. The procedure described in Paragraph 2.1.1 must be followed.
When the unit is running, it takes vapour refrigerant out of the refrigerant bottie and discharge this
refrigerant at a higher pressure into the liquid receiver. Since this higher pressure is transferred
through the vapour connection, it will apply a force on top of liquid refrigerant. This force will
push the refrigerant out of the liquid receiver through connection 4 directly into the recovery bottie.
Recovery of the liquid refrigerant will happen now at a very high flow rate.
The refrigerant recovery and oil separation by means of the cleaning module CM-4 are very simple.
CM-4 separates oil, removes humidity and acids. It is possible to check humidity on the sight glass
indicator at the unit’s outiet if the unit is equipped with it (supplied on request). The acidity can be
checked by TT1-001 or RT-700K test sets. The filter drier can also retain acids, is replaceable. The oil
separator retains at most 200 ml of oil. After interrupting the discharging cycle, closing the inlet and
outlet and after self-discharging the unit, retained oil must be discharged (Paragraph 4.2). Oil is drained
into appropriate vessel by slow opening of the bali valve 32 placed on the bottom of the oil separator so
as not to contaminate the environment.
It is forbidden to discharge oil during suction when the oil separator can be under pressure. That could
cause environmentaliy unacceptable refrigerant leaks. This procedure is therefore forbidden. Collect
retaincd oil in a vessel with sealing and hand it over to the authorised places for ecoiogical liquidation.
-8-
~‘
~ ~
Fig.5
Then follow Paragraph 2. For self-discharging follow Paragraph 4.2.
-9-
4. Self-discharging function. Switching to another refrigerant
Fig.6 Fig.7
~ After discharging a system close the valve of that system. Now close the valve on hose 3 (Fig.6).
Switch off the MAXI-R.
Adjust both valves 9 and 10 in the position B (Self-discharging) (Fig.6)
~ Close valves 28 and 29 and disconnect the hose with bali valve from the pressure bottie.
~ Use the shortest possible hose 30 with a depressing pin. Connect the hose to the recovery bottie vaive
and the end with depressing pin to the thread 11 (Seif-discharging). Open valves 28 and 33. (Fig.7)
~ Now you can switch the unit on. Procedure described in Paragraph 2.1.1 must be foliowed.
~ The MAXI-R compressor will discharge all tube lines and condenser and the refrigerant residuals will
be transported into the pressure bottie. Discharge to zero overpressure. The pressure is shown on low
pressure gauge 1 (Fig.2). 1f the gauge shows pressure of--0,6 bar, it is possible to switch the unit off.
~ Switch off the unit, close all valves, switch the valves 9 and 10 to the no~al position (Position A).
~a The minimum quantity of refrigerant under pressure can remain in the hose 30. For the perfect
discharging connect the hose to the pressure bottie discharged to vacuum. This procedure can be
checked on gauge 2. 1-Jowever this quantity of refrigerant is so small that new refrigerant cannot be
practically contarninated,
~ The MAXI-R unit is now prepared for connecting to the appliance with another refrigerant.
~ After discharging a bottie (or a system) close the bottie (system) vaive and then the hall vaive on hose
3. Switch MAXI-R off (Fig.6).
~ Close the bali valve of the fluled bottie 28 and the bali valve 29. Disconnect the hose from the bottie.
(Fig.6)
~ Use the shortest possible hose 30 with a depressing pin. Connect the hose to the recovery bottle valve
and the end with depressing pin to the thread 11 (Self-discharging). Open valves 28 and 33. (Fig.7)
• Adjust both valves 9, 10 and 31 to the position B (Self-discharging) (Fig.8).
Switch MAXI-R on. The procedure described in Paragraph 2.1 must be followed.
- 10-
Fig. 8
~ The MAXI-R compressor will discharge all tube lines and condenser and the reffigerant residuals will
be transported into the pressure bottle. Discharge to zero overpressure. The pressure is shown on low
pressure gauge 1 (Fig.2). 1f the gauge shows pressure of—0,6 bar, it is possible to switch the unit off.
~ Switch off the unit, close all valves, switch the valves 9, 10 and 31 to the normal position (Position
A),
e The minimum quantity of refrigerant under pressure can remain in the hose 30. For the perfect
discharging connect the hose to the pressure bottie discharged to vacuum. This procedure can be
checked on gauge 2. However this quantity of refrigerant is so small that new refrigerant cannot be
practically contarninated.
• The MAXI-R unit is now prepared for connecting to the appliance with another refrigerant.
5~ Maintenance
This MAXI-R recovery unit uses an oil-free compressor and is therefore nearly maintenance free with an
exception of replacing the filter diiei on the inlet 3 according to contamination of the refrigerant being
recovered. The pressure gauges can measure inaccurately after some time. In this case you can set the
scale again after removing the plastic transparent cover.
6~ Risk analysis
Despite the manufacturer has done a lot for person and environment protection, a few risk still remain.
Those may occur when general prescribe procedures of use are not held.
Risk of frostbite
During the rapid expansion of refrigerant, the rapid temperature decrease occurs. The temperature
usually drops below zero. This can be caused for example if the hose with residual pressure is
disconnected.
Wear protective gloves.
Risk of burn
During operation the outlet compressor pipeline is hot . Temperature can reach up to 50 °C. Such
temperature is not dangerous but it can be unpleasant.
Wear pro tective gloves.
