PRODUCT SAFETY DATA SHEET
Product : AGIP LAMIX 30 Page : 1/6
2. Composition/information on ingredients.
Components: Complex mixture of hydrocarbons, with distillation range 205 - 245 °C
Hazardous component(s): Kerosin (petroleum), hydrosulfurized 99,99 %p min (CAS 64742-81-0/EINECS
265-184-9; Xn; R 65-66)
3. Hazards identification.
3.0 General informations:
Classification of the product: The product is classified as dangerous according to the criteria set by the EU (Xn; R
65-66)
(for the complete text of the R-phrases quoted in this section, see section 16)
3.1 Physical-chemical dangers:
Important hazards: Product with a low risk of fire. It can create flammable mixtures or burn only if
heated above its flash point.
3.2 Dangers for human health:
Skin contact: Prolonged and repeated skin contact, especially if hygiene practices are poor, may
cause reddening, irritation and dermatitis, due to a defatting effect.
Eye contact: Contact with eyes may cause reddening and irritation.
Ingestion: Accidental ingestion of small quantities of the product may cause nausea, discomfort
and gastric disturbances. Taking into account the taste and smell of the product,
however, ingestion of dangerous quantites is very unlikely.
Inhalation: This product has a low vapour pressure, and in normal conditions at ambient
temperature the concentration in the air is negligible. A significant concentration
may build up only if the product is used at high temperature, or in case of sprays and
mists.
In these cases overexposure to vapours (e.g. through prolonged use in confined
insufficiently ventilated spaces) may cause irritation to airways, nausea and
dizziness.
Aspiration of liquid into the lungs: For all low-viscosity petroleum products (less than 7 mm2/s at 40 °C), there is the
risk of aspiration into the lungs. This may occur directly after ingestion, or
subsequently in case of vomiting (spontaneous or induced).
In this case there is the possibility of an inflamation of the lung tissues (chemical
pneumonitis). This a serious condition requiring medical treatment.
Other informations: Any substance, in case of accidents involving pressurized circuits and the like, may
be accidentally injected under the skin, even without external damage.
In such a case, the victim should be brought to an hospital as soon as possible, to
get specialized medical treatment.
3.3 Environmental hazards:
Important hazards: This product is not classified as dangerous to the environment, according to the
criteria set by the EU.
4. First-aid measures.
Skin contact: Take off contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash thoroughly with soap and water.
If inflammation or irritation persists, seek medical advice.
Eye contact: Flush with large amounts of water; if irritation persists, seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting to avoid aspiration into the lungs. If the person is conscious,
rinse mouth with water without swallowing. Keep at rest. Call for medical assistance
or bring to an hospital.
Inhalation: In case of disturbances owing to an exposure to a high concentration of vapours or
mists, remove the victim from exposure; keep at rest; if necessary, seek medical
attention.
Aspiration of liquid into the lungs: If there is the possibility that the product has been aspired into the lungs (i.e. in case
of spontaneous vomiting), transport the victim to a hospital.
5. Fire-fighting measures.
General information: Shut off source of product, if possible.
If possible, move containers and drums away from danger area.
Extinguishing media:
- Suitable: Small-size fires: carbon dioxide, dry chemicals, foam, sand or earth.
Large fires: foam or water fog (mist). These means should be used by trained
personnel only.
- Not to be used: Do not use water jets. They could cause splattering, and spread the fire.
Special protective equipment for firefighters: Personal protection equipment.
Self-contained breathing apparatus
Useful precautions: Avoid accidental sprays on hot surfaces or electrical contacts.
Other informations: Use water sprays to cool the surfaces exposed to the flames.
Spilled product which is not burning should be covered with sand or foam
In case of fire, do not discharge runoff water: collect separately and use a proper
treatment.
- Water: Confine the spillage. Remove from surface by skimming or suitable absorbents.
Notify local authorities according to regulations.
Do not use solvents or dispersants.
The association ESIG (European Solvent Industry Group) advises for the component
"Kerosin (petroleum), hydrosulfurized" (dearomatized) a TLV-TWA of 1200 mg/m3.
This limit must not replace other limits set by the National Health authorities or
agreed upon by the parties.
Monitoring procedures: Refer to relevant legislation and in any case to the good practice of industrial
hygiene.
8.2 Control of exposure
General informations: In case the concentration of the product or any constituent is above the exposure
limits, and if plant characteristics, work procedures and other means are not able to
reach the purpose, it is necessary to use suitable means of personal protection.
This information relates only to the specific product and may not be valid if the product is used in combination with any other material
or in any process.
The informations in this sheet are according to our best knowledge at the date of printing.
This Safety Data Sheet has been checked and printed on 12/06/2003.
2 COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
COMPOSITION COMMENTS
The data shown is in accordance with the latest EC Directives. Drilling fluid is a highly complex and variable blend of several proprietary
products. Each drilling fluid is designed to meet the drilling requirements of a specific well. During the drilling process the composition and
physical properties of the drilling fluid are constantly changing, therefore a complete disclosure of a particular fluid’s composition is
impractical. In normal operations, the viscosity of oil-based drilling fluid is high enough that the base oil component is not an aspiration risk
and the R65 phrase does not apply.
3 HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
HUMAN HEALTH
This product contains a small quantity of quartz. IARC Monographs, Vol 68, 1997, concludes that there is sufficient evidence that inhaled
crystalline silica in the form of quartz or crystobalite from occupational sources causes cancer in humans. IARC classification Group 1.
Because of quantity and composition, the health hazard is small.
4 FIRST-AID MEASURES
INHALATION
Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. If respiratory problems, artificial respiration/oxygen. Get medical attention if any discomfort
continues.
INGESTION
Do not induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs, the head should be kept low so that stomach vomit doesn't enter the lungs. Immediately give a
couple of glasses of water or milk, provided the victim is fully conscious. Get medical attention if any discomfort continues.
SKIN CONTACT
Remove contaminated clothing immediately and wash skin with soap and water. Get medical attention promptly if symptoms occur after
washing.
EYE CONTACT
Promptly wash eyes with plenty of water while lifting the eye lids. Continue to rinse for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention.

1.0 Assembling the safety supports for transportation
The pillow block bearings are subject to damage from shock and vibration during
transportation and handling. To prevent this, the pillow block bearing should be
preloaded using the wedge blocks.
Place the tie-rod complete with wedge (E) on the supporting plate.
Insert spring (C), washer (B) and the preload (A) in the tie-rod.
Screw down the screws (H) that fix the flange (F) of the pulley support.

Minimum output pulse 0 to 99 sec
• HOLD function
The input value and alarms are frozen while the logic input is active.
With the logic input active, a reset turns OFF both the relay outputs and the alarms latch.
• FLASH function
Input value is sampled; state of alarms is not transferred to outputs; outputs are “frozen”.
When the logic input is active the input value is “frozen” and the outputs are updated according to the calculated alarms
state, including the ones latched.

7 • ACCESSORIES
• CURRENT TRANSFORMER
These transformers are used to measure current at 50 ÷ 60Hz from 25A at 600A (rated
primary current lp). The special characteristic of these transformers is the high number
1 2
of turns of the secondary (ls). This produces a very low secondary current, appropriate
for an electronic measurement circuit. The secondary current can be read as voltage on
a resistor.

• WARNINGS
! WARNING: this symbol indicates danger.
It is seen near the power supply circuit and near high-voltage relay contacts.
Read the following warnings before installing, connecting or using the device:
• follow instructions precisely when connecting the device.
• always use cables that are suitable for the voltage and current levels indicated in the technical specifications.
• the device has no ON/OFF switch: it switches on immediately when power is turned on. For safety reasons, devices permanently connected to the power
supply require a two-phase disconnecting switch with proper marking. Such switch must be located near the device and must be easily reachable by the
user. A single switch can control several units.
• if the device is connected to electrically NON-ISOLATED equipment (e.g. thermocouples), a grounding wire must be applied to assure that this
connection is not made directly through the machine structure.
• if the device is used in applications where there is risk of injury to persons and/or damage to machines or materials, it MUST be used with auxiliary alarm
units. You should be able to check the correct operation of such units during normal operation of the device.
• before using the device, the user must check that all device parameters are correctly set in order to avoid injury to persons and/or damage to property.
• the device must NOT be used in inflammable or explosive environments. It may be connected to units operating in such environments only by means of
suitable interfaces in conformity to local safety regulations.
• the device contains components that are sensitive to static electrical discharges. Therefore, take appropriate precautions when handling electronic circuit
boards in order to prevent permanent damage to these components.
Installation: installation category II, pollution level 2, double isolation
• power supply lines must be separated from device input and output lines; always check that the supply voltage matches the voltage indicated on the
device label.
• install the instrumentation separately from the relays and power switching devices
• do not install high-power remote switches, contactors, relays, thyristor power units (particularly if “phase angle” type), motors, etc... in the same cabinet.
• avoid dust, humidity, corrosive gases and heat sources.
• do not close the ventilation holes; working temperature must be in the range of 0...50°C.
If the device has faston terminals, they must be protected and isolated; if the device has screw terminals, wires should be attached at least in pairs.
• Power: supplied from a disconnecting switch with fuse for the device section; path of wires from switch to devices should be as straight as possible; the
same supply should not be used to power relays, contactors, solenoid valves, etc.; if the voltage waveform is strongly distorted by thyristor switching units
or by electric motors, it is recommended that an isolation transformer be used only for the devices, connecting the screen to ground; it is important for the
electrical system to have a good ground connection; voltage between neutral and ground must not exceed 1V and resistance must be less than 6Ohm; if
the supply voltage is highly variable, use a voltage stabilizer for the device; use line filters in the vicinity of high frequency generators or arc welders;
power supply lines must be separated from device input and output lines; always check that the supply voltage matches the voltage indicated on the
device label.
• Input and output connections: external connected circuits must have double insulation; to connect analog inputs (TC, RTD) you have to: physically
separate input wiring from power supply wiring, from output wiring, and from power connections; use twisted and screened cables, with screen connected
to ground at only one point; to connect adjustment and alarm outputs (contactors, solenoid valves, motors, fans, etc.), install RC groups (resistor and
capacitor in series) in parallel with inductive loads that work in AC (Note: all capacitors must conform to VDE standards (class x2) and support at least 220
VAC. Resistors must be at least 2W); fit a 1N4007 diode in parallel with the coil of inductive loads that operate in DC.
GEFRAN spa will not be held liable for any injury to persons and/or damage to property deriving from tampering, from any incorrect or
erroneous use, or from any use not conforming to the device specifications.

Bearings
The standard motors with shaft height 160-250 are normally equipped with ball bearings. The axial positioning of the rotor is obtained
by a locating bearing at D-end. They are usually supplied without regreasing devices.
The standard motors with shaft height 280-315 have a ball bearing as rotor locating bearing at N-end. They are normally equipped with
regreasing devices.
The type of motor bearings is specified on the nameplate.
The operation of a motor with roller bearings without radial loads to the shaft end could damage the bearing.
It is advisable to replace the bearings after motor dismantling and, in any case , periodically, without waiting for their
deterioration.
Accessories
According to the customer’s order, motors can be equipped with accessories, such as anti-condensation heaters, thermistors, fan unit,
etc..
5. Installation
5.1 Check before installation
The installer must ensure the existence of the type of safety which made the type of construction chosen
admissible for the specific installation area (in full compliance with the standard governing the type of safety
of the motor installed) in order to ensure the effective operation of the defences (barriers), preventing the
occurrence of an undesired event, proper of various types of protection.
Before installing the motor, make sure that name plate data correspond to power supply and operating conditions and that the
installation complies with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
The temperature class shown on the motor’s rating plate must be compatible with the temperature class of any inflammable
gases which might form.
The following are essential barrier elements:
- integrity of the enclosure (which must not have any accidental cracks, unauthorised holes, covers not in place, cable entry holes
that are not used and not blanked off)
- pipe entries (which must be made with a suitable thread and fitted with the necessary tightening unions)
- cable entries (which must be made with certified cable glands with perfect tightening of seals and armour).
Check if vertical construction machines with shaft extension downwards are provided with canopy.
Make sure that the motors to be used in particular ambient conditions are equipped with adequate solutions to operate correctly:
tropicalization treatment, protection against direct sun radiation, special fan cowl for the textile industry, etc..
Make sure that the operating speed will not exceed the maximum speed specified by the manufacturer (control and protection devices
shall be used if necessary).
Before carrying out any testing, ensure the atmosphere is non-explosive while the checks are carried out.
MARELLI MOTORI 13
ASI.UM.021.1
Generally speaking, the element should be hot mounted. We recommend heating the component to a temperature of 80-100°C (during
heating, remove from the transmission element any elastic part subject to deterioration).
When it is not possible to heat the part, one can use , the tool illustrated in fig. 1.
5.5 Alignment
Align the motor and the driven machine very carefully, inaccurate alignement may result in vibrations, damages to the bearings
and even shaft extension fracture.
The alignment is done by verifying with a comparator or a thickness caliper that the distance between the half-couplings is the same all
the way around and checking with a comparator or a rule if the external surface of the half-couplings are coaxial (fig. 2).
The check must be performed in four diametrically opposite points.
The errors should be corrected using shims placed between the feet and the base.
Always double-check alignment after tightening fixing bolts.
By hand verify that the rotor turns easily.
14 MARELLI MOTORI
ASI.UM.021.1
Cable entries
Connections have to be carried out by cable or conduit entries according to EN 60079-14 standard.
Cable and conduit entries shall be constructed and fixed so that they do not alter the specific characteristics of the type of protection.
The selection of the cable gland must be done in relation to the type of installation and type of cable. The cable gland must:
- prevent pulling or twisting applied to it from being transmitted to the terminals,
- ensure the degree of protection (IP) of the terminal box.
In the EEx–d terminal boxes (flameproof type of protection) the cable entries must be approved according to EN 50014 and EN 50018
standards, with a minimum degree of protection IP 55.
In the EEx-e terminal boxes (safety increased type of protection) the cable entries must be approved according to EN 50014 and
EN 50019 standards, with a minimum degree of protection IP 55.
The cable entries must be CE marked according to Group I or Group II, according to the Category of the motor.
The cable glands used in motors with degree of protection IP 65 (for use in Zones 21 – Motors of Category 2D) shall ensure the degree of
protection of the motor (IP 65).
Connection of the auxiliary devices (Temperature sensors, Thermistors)
It is advisable that the connection of the auxiliary devices is carried out by shielded cables, sufficient distance from the main supply cables
to ensure safety.
5.9 Commissioning
Before starting up, check if installation, alignment, electrical connection and earthing have been carried out correctly.
Make sure that all protective measures against contact with live or rotating parts have been arranged, and that ventilation openings are not
obstructed. Unused apertures are to be closed with approved plugs.
We recommend to replace the grease in the motor supports that have been stored under favourable conditions (dry, dust and vibration-
free rooms) for a period of 3 years or more.
Verify by hand that the rotor turns freely (without hindrance).
For motors with cooling IC 416, the auxiliary motor (which drives the fan) has to be supplied by net at constant frequency and it has to
operate before the starting of the main motor (whose operation has to be forbidden if the auxiliary motor is not running).
MARELLI MOTORI 15
ASI.UM.021.1
Start up the motor and check the direction of rotation, rotation speed, the name plate rating data and the bearing temperature.
Motors have to operate within the operating limits of the nameplate data.
During the motor operation the terminal box has to be always closed regularly .
6. Maintenance
All maintenance and inspection operations must be carried out with the machine at standstill and
disconnected from the power supply (including auxiliary circuits, especially the anticondensation
heaters).
Do not open the terminal box of a motor installed in a hazardous area before all the supplies are de-energised
and insulated and the motor is cooled or is assured the absence of explosive atmosphere.
The drawing on fig. 6, referring to standard motors, contains useful information for qualified personnel for repairs made to motor.
Special construction motors may differ in details from the one illustrated.
Repairs must be carried out in the Marelli Motori workshop. Any repair by the end user, unless expressly approved by the
manufacturer, releases the manufacturer from his responsibility concerning the conformity of the motor.
Only original spare parts may be used.
16 MARELLI MOTORI
ASI.UM.021.1
6.2 Lubrication
Initial lubrication
For initial charge of standard motor bearings the grease Esso-Unirex N3 (a grease with lithium complex soap) is usually used.
To lubricate the motors without regreasing devices, clean the bearing and the bearing housing and renew the grease after:
Lubrication intervals
rpm Quantità grasso
Motor size
3600 3000 1800 1500 1000 (g)
160 – 180 M 7000 7500 12000 14000 18000 16
180 L – 200 5500 7000 11000 12000 16000 20
225 5500 7000 10000 11000 16000 30
250 5000 5500 9500 11000 14000 36
The table values are based on the motor running at normal environment, without vibrations and external axial or radial loads.
Lubrication intervals for vertical machines are half of the above values.
The lubricating data of the motors with regreasing devices are given in the nameplates and they are referred to normal environment, without
vibrations and external axial or radial loads.
When motor is supplied with a frequency converter, if the speed range is over the synchronous speed of 50 or 60 Hz but within the certified
limits, the lubrication interval must be shorted.
Motors lubricated with special grease have grease type in the nameplate.
When lubrication is done on a motor with regreasing devices, remove the plug from the endshield, clean the grease nipple before replacing
the grease, turn the rotor in order to distribute the new grease inside the bearing.
Immediately after regreasing the bearing temperature rises (10-15 °C) for a while, and then drops to normal values after the grease has
been uniformly distributed and the excessive grease displaced from the bearing.
An excessive quantity of grease causes the bearing to self heat.
After regreasing, close the exhaust grease opening with the plug.
Support leaning and grease renewal
Whatever the operating hours may be, the grease needs to be renewed after 1-2 years and when doing complete overhauls.
After dismantling the motor clean the bearing and the bearing housing of old grease, dry them, check the bearing for running clearance
and if necessary replace it.
Fill all the empty spaces inside the bearing with new grease, do not fill the side-spaces of the bearing housing.
Recommended grease types (for standard applications):
Esso – Unirex N3; SKF – LGHQ 3 Klüber – Kluberplex BEM 41-132; Shell – Albida EMS2.
Mixing different greases (thickener, basic oil) reduces their quality and is therefore to be avoided.

INSTALLATION
3.1 GENERAL
Examine the instrument for possible shipping damages. IMPORTANT: If for any reason it is determined that
the equipment should be returned to the factory, please notify to us prior to shipment. Each unit must be prop-
erly packaged to prevent damage. We assume no responsibility for equipment damaged in shipment due to
improper packing.
Choose the location in accordance with good instrument practice, avoiding extremes temperature, humid-
ity and vibration. (See SPECIFICATIONS, Section II.)
The Vibration switch Model 366G detector, may be located in any outdoor or indoor area according to
Atex Classification and housing Protection information contained in Section II, Specifications.
In locations where moisture condensation within junction boxes is a problem, a two watt resistor may be placed
across terminals 6 and 8 inside the Vibraswitch cover and wired to a source of continuos voltage to provide heat
within the enclosure to reduce condensation effects. See Table 3-1 for Space heater value.
3.2 MOUNTING
Figure 3-2 illustrates the methods of mounting on various pieces of equipment. Figure 3-1 shows the
mounting dimensions and external wiring for the Vibration switch Model 366G.
The vibration sensitive axis of the Vibraswitch is perpendicular to its mounting base. Therefore, the Vibra-
tion switch must be mounted in a plane that will detect the vibratory motion for which protection is desired.
The Vibration switch may be mounted at any location along the length of machines containing rotating
shafts that are horizontal and parallel to the base of machine: the preferable location being in line with the
rotating shaft. Do not mount the Vibration switch perpendicular to the ends of the rotating shafts unless
the end-play or end-thrust measurement is desired. Normally, bent shafts, unbalances on the rotating
mass of the shaft, worn bearings, and other anomalies are detected near the bearing housing and at the
right angles to the shaft.
The Vibration switch may be mounted in any position between the side (vertical) or the top (horizontal) of
bearings or machine housing. It should be noted that when mounting Vibration switches on top (horizontal
position) of equipment the vibration measurement range is stated in the Specification Section. However,
when the Vibration switch is mounted on a side position (90° from horizontal), 1 g is subtracted from the
measurement range of the instrument.
If mounting bracket assembly is used to mount the Vibraswitch due to an irregular mounting surface, it
must be constructed of steel having sufficient thickness and properly reinforced so that mechanical reso-
nance are not introduced; usually ½ steel plate is satisfactory if the dimensions of the bracket are not
large. It is extremely important that all the corners of the Vibration switch, as well as the mounting assem-
bly, be rigidly secured to the machine. Exact location is not critical as the adjustment procedure of the Vi-
bration switch automatically accounts for the normal vibration at the location.
The Vibration switch, when properly adjusted, trips on a relative increase in vibration.
When installing the Vibration switch on existing equipment where several convenient mounting positions
are available, it is advisable to check the existing vibration level at each possible position before
permanently mounting the unit. The Vibration switch can be used to measure existing vibration by holding
or clamping it against the running machine and determining the trip point as described under
ADJUSTMENT in this manual. Should normal vibration exceed the range of the Vibration switch, it is
recommended that consideration be given to Vibra-Tel, model 566, Continuos Monitor Unit which is
capable of monitoring higher g-levels.

3.5 WIRING
The Vibration switch Model 366G, is equipped with two threaded hubs for ¾ UNI-6125-74 conduit.
When the vibration amplitude is large (i.e., greater than 5 mils) it is good practice to use a short length of
flexible conduit to serve as an insulator between the rigid conduit and the Vibration switch. Wiring into the
unit should be done with #18 stranded wire although #14 can be used where necessary. The Vibration
switch was not designed for wiring with heavy solid wire. However, where necessary to use an heavier
wire, as in low voltage DC units, a junction box near the Vibration switch should be used.
NOTE
The instrument housing must be sealed at the conduit outlets with a
suitable compound or trap to prevent infiltration of moisture-laden air
or corrosive gases into the housing.
NOTE
All instrument installation wiring must be done in accordance with local
codes and commonly accepted practices.
NOTE
a) The products installed in places with environment temperature of
40°C, must have Tcable 90°C indication. This means that the Buyer
and/or the User must use a connection cable having maximum service
temperature not lower than 90°C.
b) The products installed in places with environment temperature of
55°C, must have Tcable 105°C indication. This means that the Buyer
and/or the User must use a connection cable having maximum service
temperature not lower than 105°C.
To avoid unnecessary difficulty in wiring the unit, the following procedure should be followed in detail:
a. When installing conduit and mounting the Model 366G, it is recommended that the cover be left on the
unit.
b. If the Model 366G is to be mounted in unprotected or dusty areas, a dust-tight or water-tight seal should
be made at the conduit entrance.
c. With all mounting complete, remove cover and insert wires through conduit entrance with sufficient
length to reach the terminal block.
d. Strip wires back ¼ and install solderless terminals.
e. Connect wires to terminals as shown in Figure 3-1.

OPERATION
4.1 OPERATION
The Vibration switch Model Euro366G (Refer to Figure 4-1), is sensitive to vibration in a direction (the sensitive
axis) perpendicular to its mounting base. It contains a vibration detecting mechanism, which also functions as a me-
chanical amplifier , to activate a snap-action switch when the selected level of vibration is exceeded and the detect-
ing mechanism trips .

The detecting mechanism consists of an armature suspended on a flexure pivot which is restrained from motion by a
permanent magnet (the holddown magnet). In the armed condition, the armature is held against the stop pin by the
holddown magnet. The stop pin maintains a precise air gap between the armature and the holddown magnet. On the
opposite end of the armature, the compression spring provides an adjustable force to oppose the force of the hold-
down magnet. Whenever the peak vibration inertial force (mass x acceleration) plus the adjustable compression
spring force exceeds the force of the holding magnet, the armature is released and is pulled into the latching magnet
( tripped position). Simultaneously, it activates the snap-action switch. This detecting mechanism has a uniform re-
sponse from 0 to 300 Hz over a range of 0 to 4.5 g s.
The mechanism may be reset to the armed position manually (locally) or electrically (remotely). Manually, depress
the reset button to move the armature away from the latching magnet ( tripped position) until it is held against the
stop pin ( armed position). Electrically, the reset coil may be activated to pull the armature into the armed posi-
tion against the stop pin.
A reset and holding coil is provided, in the DC/AC voltage as specified, so that accidental shutdowns on starts can be
prevented. External time-delay circuits are required to maintain voltage at the holding coil during the startup period
and then release this voltage when operation is normal. At full voltage, the reset coil should not be energized for
more than four minutes to prevent overheating. Then, the reset coil must be de-energized for a period of 10 minutes
before re-energizing. For longer hold-in requirements the reset coil should be energized at a full voltage and then
held-in at one-half the rated voltage.
Page 12
EExd-Manual-Atex-366G
The Vibration switch Model 366G, may be used in conjunction with the Vibraswitch Monitor. The monitor
is a solid-state electronic system designed to sort-out false signals received by the Vibration switch so
that Alarm and/or Shutdown of the operating machine will not result from false, transient disturbances.
Example of transient disturbances are the closing of pipeline check valves on pumping applications, the
start-up of additional pups on a line, and the initial start-up of various operating machines. These distur-
bances may cause the Vibration switch to trip-out if the vibratory shock level is in excess of its setpoint.
The purpose of the Vibraswitch Monitor is to supervise and sort out the transient disturbances so that
the Alarm or Shutdown is not falsely imposed on the machine being monitored; but any continuous vibra-
tion level which exceeds the Setpoint of the Vibration switch will cause Alarm or/and Shutdown.
The operating setpoint for the Vibration switch varies with the type of machine and its location (measurement point)
on the machine. The setpoint adjustments suggested in this instruction manual are for machines which are function-
ing in a good or normal condition. This method follows the concept of vibration tolerance for the machine and in
this case is dependent upon an individual who is experienced in the operation of the machine to define the vibration
as normal , fair , slightly rough , etc. These various degrees of machine vibration are, therefore, based on indi-
vidual s physical perception between normal and abnormal roughness while the machine is operating.
It is agreed that this method can lead to differences in the classification of degree of vibration between individual ob-
servers. It is Robertshaw s contention, and experience bears out this conclusion, that if the machine is operating sat-
isfactorily as previously defined and the acceleration as measured by the Vibration switch is within certain limits, the
settings as outlined in the instructions will offer protection to the machine and prevent catastrophic failure.
For example, assume that a relatively new machine which, in the experience of the operator, is operating as smooth
or good regarding Vibration and the Vibration switch measures this acceleration level to be 0.25 g above its static
condition (zero). Experiences suggests that a reasonable level for alarm conditions would be a minimum of twice this
value or 0.5 g. It must be acknowledged that such a definition or upper vibration limits (alarm condition) on the ma-
chine may not have adequately defined the upper tolerance limit of the machine before major repairs or excessive
machine damages occurs. It does, however, define a limit which, in our experience, has proven to be safe. As the user
becomes more adept in using the Vibration switch as a monitoring device, his experience may dictate an higher set-
point more in keeping with the experience he has gained on the particular machine.
With the equipment on which the Vibration switch is mounted not operating, back off the Setpoint adjusting
screw counterclockwise (CCW) two turns and press the reset button. Then turn the Setpoint adjusting screw
slowly clockwise until actuation occurs (the armature assembly is against the latch magnet, Figure 4-1). This is
the zero vibration point, or actuating point, with the machine not operating. A mark should be made with a
lead pencil or other convenient means to permanently record this zero vibration point . Subsequent measure-
ments are made relative to this point.
Page 13
EExd-Manual-Atex-366G
With the machine (equipment) operating, back off the Setpoint adjusting screw one turn CCW and reset. If it
will not reset, back off the Setpoint adjusting screw two turn CCW, etc. Again turn the Setpoint adjusting
screw slowly clockwise until actuation occurs. Mark this position with a lead pencil or other convenient
means. The difference between the two actuating points in Steps a and b is the normal g-level of the operating
machine, in scale divisions. One scale division is 0.1 g; one full revolution is 1.0 g.
If the normal g-level is less than 1.0 g above the zero level, rotate the Setpoint adjusting screw CCW 0.5 g
(five graduations) from the point where actuation occurs in Step b above. If the normal g-level is greater
than 1.0 g refer to Figure 4-3 for the proper Final Setpoint setting with respect to the normal g-level vibration
point obtained in Step b. See example on Figure 4-3.
