A company has 3 security guards (A, B and C). Guards A and B form a
patrolling team (Team 1) and guard C alone forms another patrolling
‘team (Team 2). Each team carries a pager activated by sensors. Both
‘teams independently report any alert, but only 1 guard in a team will
report an alert. The probability that A or C reports an alert is 0.55 and
that B or C reports an alert is 0.475.

0.775, Determine the probability of A reporting an alert, the
probability of B reporting an alert and the probability of C

Given that the waiting time, X' minutes, for a customer in a certain queue
is a uniformly distributed random variable with the probability density
function given by U(0,10).

Utility Company claims that the average monthly utility bills for 4-room
HDB flat households is $63. However, a random sample of 50
households’ bills gives an average of $65 with a standard deviation
$11.98.
@ Use the p-value approach to test whether or not the sample
statistics support the claim of the utility company. The level of
significance is 5%, In your test, you are required to state the
hypotheses Hy and Ha, compute the test statistic and the p-value
and state your conclusion.

(ii) Determine the 90.1 percent confidence interval on the average
monthly utility bills.
