New grad student user here: Are Trophy’s privacy and security practices similar to Zotero’s?

In a word, yes.
So far, Tropy is an application that operates completely on your local computer. On macOS and Windows there is an automatic update check to one of our servers, which sends your current platform and Tropy versions (and you can turn it off if you want). But if Tropy adds additional services, they will be very much aligned to Zotero’s in terms of privacy and security guidelines.
