  1. A little like Jonny Severn and SirCamel, I've been cleaning up box art for years now (I've hit 10,277 successful submissions to date....somehow). I don't have photoshop or anything fancy, just a few old art packages, some good free websites for enlarging images, creating transparencies and finding out what fonts are used - AND perseverance!). My biggest submission project to date has been the reconstructed Nintendo Game & Watch boxes (all previously uploaded to the Db) - which started as a challenge to myself to see how far I could push / punish PowerPoint - but my OCD drove me to recreate all the boxes inc. as many regional variations as I could (I'll upload one here as example). I don't have a lot of time - so I cannot take on any requests....but hope what I do upload helps someone out there to either use as is or take to the next level if they have Photoshop. First uploads: The Last Ninja - C64 Cassette version (front, back and spine) N64 Box Spines (28x USA Boxes, 2x EUROPE) Nintendo G&W (Chef - front, back, L+R spine, T+B spine) I'll keep posting as and when I complete anything...but as this is simply a hobby...no guarantees when

I use the console boxes from Coverbox by @faeran as platform banners in Launchbox and I really liked the additional ones created by @Rlad and thought I would have a go myself. I love me some Speccy and thought the 48K+ doesn't get enough love so created a box for it. Also created ZX Spectrum Next boxes. 4 variants. 2 for each Kickstarter release (red/blue & big/small). Sega Games Library has 2 variants. Flicky is the official Sega Channel Mascot but the original brown box it came in has Sonic on. (Sorry for any fluent Japanese readers if there are any spelling errors or the font is way off) European variant of the Dreamcast box. Pico-8 is as 'official' a box as I can find. For MegaNet I've used the Sega Games Library as I think all the games for MegaNet are via this cartridge. For those that prefer a different gradient colour on the Sharp X68000, you can easily change it in the GIMP file. As I own a European Dreamcast, this started as a project to get the EU covers sorted out so that BigBox would look good. There are a lot of good quality scans in the LB db and online, but most of the backs have the spines attached and a notch where the back slotted into the EU case. As we don't yet have an EU case (deeper than the NA and JP cases with a notch where the hinge is) - I decided to split the spines out and fill in the notches. This isn't limited to just EU, I have also tidied up the North American "Exclusives" that the EU didn't get, and included some notable Japanese games that are English "friendly" Specifics: (noting that for the default EU, NA and JP cases to work by region, you'll need to set the region within the games metadata first) European Where necessary, front covers have been tweaked to remove damage and roughly colour matched Backs have had their top/bottom right "notches" filled in Spines have been separated out and edges cleaned up A lot of logo's created / modified to match the EU fronts Shenmue and Shenmue II became a sub-project to get their spines to accurately reflect the box end showing the 2x cases inside (thanks to @goofers for your template assistance). I've included a separate 7z with the other end of the Shenmue cases if you prefer the flat edge version i.e. not the 2x jewel cases inside end (hopefully one day we'll be able to assign left / right / top / bottom images to boxes and then you can use both). If you do want to replicate the look - override the default case to a box, force the Box background colour [ R:65 G:106 B:160 ] and uncheck the "draw image logo" top side option...oh, and don't convert the front / back Shenmue / Shenmue II box images to jpg (from png) otherwise you'll lose the transparency effect of the cut outs ...and finally - I've modified the LB Platform Dreamcast logo to have a blue pixel to reflect the EU console model look North American Not a lot done with the fronts or backs Spines cleaned up - or where the resolution was low - recreated in PowerPoint A few logo's created / modified Japanese Fronts and backs colour matched. Some AI upscaled Spines cleaned up - or where the resolution was low - recreated in PowerPoint A few logo's created / modified Japanese game specifics: Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation vs. Zeon DX - should have the default case over-ridden to a Jewel case with Solid Spine Cosmic Smash / Karous / Triggerheart Exelica / Under Defeat - all should have the default case over-ridden to a DVD case Last Hope: Pink Bullets - should have the default case over-ridden to a DVD case and force the background colour [ R:235 G:67 B:158 ] Ad-hoc Updates For the odd update - such as the updated "NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC" logo - I've added it to the screenshots to save re-uploading the whole Clear Logo 7z (plus saves everyone from having to download the file again for one new logo) 15th August - added Nightmare Creatures II updated logo to the screenshots 16th August - added a separate 7z file for "Golf Shiyouyo: Kouryaku Pack" as (I believe) you would need this game to access the "Golf Shiyouyo: Course Data Shuu: Adventure-hen" course data disc EU Games List: NA Games List: JP Games List:
  10. So I have caught the widescreen bug for games that were made before the widescreen revolution. This is mostly 3D games of the 5th and 6th Console Generation. Whilst there are quite a few games that have native widescreen support there are hacks and cheats to unlock the aspect ratio to display a true Anamorphic 16:9 Widescreen image. NO IN GAME STRETCHING HERE. What is True Anamorphic 16:9? - When you set a 4:3 game to run 16:9 and that title doesn't support it, the image will be stretched. True Anamorphic is adjusted for the 16:9 space so everything is rendered and displayed with no stretching. There are 3 ways to achieve this below. Native Widescreen? - Some games actually have widescreen support from the older generations. I was surprised to discover Goldeneye has native widescreen support, which would have made 4 player deathmatching wayyyyy better. Cheat Codes? - For games that have no Widescreen support there are some coding geniuses out there that have made easily implementable cheat codes to achieve Anamorphic 16:9. A small number of games need directly patching however most use cheat codes. These are made on a per game basis and yield far better results than Emulator Hacks. Emulator Hacks? Most emulators and cores now have a "Widescreen Hack" option. This option only works on a handful of games and is generally not the way to go as pop-in is really obvious outside the 4:3 space. PLEASE UNDERSTAND EMULATOR HACKS ARE NOT CHEAT CODES. THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE. POP-IN Pop-in is the enemy of getting games to run in 16:9. Because games were made to display in 4:3, anything that is displayed outside of that space will pop-in and out unless something is done to manipulate the code to render everything in the 16:9 space. This is due to devs simply not needing to use recourses on displaying anything outside 4:3 in those days. As I mentioned above, emulator hacks have terrible pop-in outside the 4:3 space. This is why cheat codes are the way to go if a game doesn't have native widescreen support. Cheat codes generally just work....... but not always. UI, HUD, FMV & Menu Stretching When using any widescreen solution there is more often than not, some 2D elements that will be stretched or not adjusted to display in the 16:9 space e.g speed dials in racers. Even native widescreen games have 2D asset stretching as the devs didn't adjust any or some of these elements. There are some examples where this doesn't happen, mostly with cheat codes as the coding genius behind it figured out how to resize or move UI elements. Sometimes selection cursors wont line up with what you are selecting as a result of the clashing 4:3 2D assets and adjusted 16:9 assets. FMV is generally stretched also, but not always. These are really small issues and not deal breakers. Just a small price to pay for glorious in game 16:9. Regional Differences / 60Hz Some titles for PAL/JP regions are easier/better to make codes/patches for over their USA counterparts. I had to change up my set to accommodate widescreen. I will be listing what region version is needed. Most games run at 60Hz thanks to codes but if not it will be in the notes section on the list. What am I doing? What is the project all about? Testing. Lot's of time consuming testing. Not all cheat codes work and have noticeable pop-in, ruining the experience. Emulator hacks work on very few games. I am testing most if not all games for certain platforms to see what works correctly with no pop-in using cheat codes or emulator hacks. Also finding out what region version works better as I have come across differences in pop-in. I am collating lists of working games with notes and presenting them to everyone to enjoy. These will be definitive up to date lists. For platforms like GC I will be providing ini's with the cheat codes to save everyone some time. If it has bad pop-in it gets cut. I'm also trying to consolidate information. Sega Dreamcast 16:9 Widescreen Games via Flycast List The Flycast core has all of the up to date Widescreen Cheat Codes hard coded to the core itself. No copy and pasting. All you need to do is go to Quick Menu -> Options -> Emulation Hacks -> and enable "Widescreen Cheats". Please make sure "Widescreen Hacks" is NOT ENABLED. You will need to set RetroArch itself to 16:9. "Auto" won't work. YOU ONLY NEED DO THIS FOR NATIVE WIDESCREEN GAMES You can set the Flycast core resolution to how you want it. You may want to save an Game Options Override on a per game basis for RetroArch. Here is the GitHub link to the widescreen cheats for the Flycast Core that I referenced. This is the Authentic version of the Sega Dreamcast Japan Set. This means it uses the Templates made by @Suprakarma some of which I have altered slightly. 101 Boxes have inlays that have been researched properly so they are correct. About 20 boxes that should have inlays don't as inlays could not be found for them. The Database was made by @aorin1. Thanks again Aorin! 14. Info: ROMs: - Dreamcast: Folder with subfolders containing the GDI/BIN/RAW, also tried to CHD the folders - DS: Folder with ZIP Software: - LB Version 1.1 - Android 9 running on a RP2+ Issue: Launchbox > Import Games Selecting Folder for Dreamcast ROMs Selecting Sega Dreamcast as a Platform Enabled Combine ROMs Enabled Import from subfolders Tried with and without enabling to use Folder Names Clicking to proceed with import The importer now finds 1028 files, it should be the Metacritic Top 100 for the DC and imports them as such. The playlist afterwards has 1028 entries, each individual file. If I do the same thing with a CHD, it just adds the CHD, does not scrape the name, content or anyhting. For the DS the exact same thing happens. It just adds the ZIP without scraping. I've added 14 other systems, they all worked flawlessly, so I have to assume something's very wrong with Sega DC and Nintendo DS scraping. My filenames should be more than fine.

  16. Hi all, I'm trying to get flycast running through launchbox for Dreamcast games, but I'm really struggling with this at the moment and could use a few tips and pointers. I'm using CHD's for the games and they work without a hitch in retroarch on their own. The collection of games has been imported into Launchbox successfully with all the cover art and details etc. I've associated the flycast core with the Dreamcast section, but when I try to run any of the games, nothing happens, it doesn't even load retroarch at all. I have all the correct bios's in place, so it must be something to do with either file structure, filename or a launch command that I need to include. I'm guessing creating a batch file, could be a last resort to solve this. Can anyone help at all?

  18. Hi LB, 1.Doe anyone here use WD My Passport (5400 rpm) portable drive on emulation such as PS2, Dreamcast, PS3, Wii U? 2.How does it perform? 3.If you have recommendation, what External HDD I should use for emulation? I need an External HDD for portability as much as possible, external HDD that do not use external power supply. Note: I have Seagate Backup Plus HUB external hard drive 8tb, contains full PS2, DreamCast, PS3 and Wii U Games/Roms and it is stuttering every time. I also have WD My book 4tb (5400 rpm) and it works well, the problem is, It needs to be connected to the outlet in order to work.
