GTK2 packages

Arch is phasing GTK2 out of its repositories. This entails the renaming and removing packages: the newer -gtk[34] which replace old GTK2 ones drop their suffix and the latter are removed.

Artix will keep GTK2 and dependent packages (for as long as they build without much patching) in [galaxy]. Notable ones are LXDE (package group lxde-gtk2) and hexchat. Please understand that they will not be actively supported and help in maintaining is appreciated.

If you really want to get LXDE-Gtk2, you must first prevent the unwanted influence of gnome. and archlinux.

All these and a few more are now in [galaxy], grouped either as gtk2 or lxde-gtk2

Hi @nous & everybody

usually, I'm very conservative, I like gtk2 , and I would agree to maintain gtk2

However, that's not the actual case for me, because it may would be a better solution.

Arch ships a package from OpenSuse folks, called gtk2-compat

Its description:

Simulates the presence of GTK2+ , but tries to use GTK3+

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/gtk2-compat/

https://github.com/openSUSE/gtk2-compat

So , this package could cover well the gk2 absence on a Linux system

I tried it in the past on Manjaro years ago, it worked good

So, maybe there is not need at all to waste efforts maintaining gtk2 on the repos
