GTK2 packages 03 November 2025, 19:51:09 Arch is phasing GTK2 out of its repositories. This entails the renaming and removing packages: the newer -gtk[34] which replace old GTK2 ones drop their suffix and the latter are removed.Artix will keep GTK2 and dependent packages (for as long as they build without much patching) in [galaxy]. Notable ones are LXDE (package group lxde-gtk2) and hexchat. Please understand that they will not be actively supported and help in maintaining is appreciated.Post issues (preferably with solutions) and suggestions here. Quote Selected 6 Likes
Re: GTK2 packages Reply #1 – 03 November 2025, 19:56:27 The "new" -gtk2 packages are currently in [galaxy-gremlins]. We'll release them to [galaxy] after some testing. Expect some hiccups when updating your systems, they'll go away, eventually. Quote Selected

Re: GTK2 packages Reply #10 – 08 January 2026, 19:46:11 Hi @nous & everybodyusually, I'm very conservative, I like gtk2 , and I would agree to maintain gtk2However, that's not the actual case for me, because it may would be a better solution.Arch ships a package from OpenSuse folks, called gtk2-compatIts description:Simulates the presence of GTK2+ , but tries to use GTK3+https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/gtk2-compat/https://github.com/openSUSE/gtk2-compatSo , this package could cover well the gk2 absence on a Linux systemI tried it in the past on Manjaro years ago, it worked goodSo, maybe there is not need at all to waste efforts maintaining gtk2 on the repos Quote Selected Last Edit: 08 January 2026, 20:00:17 by thealio 1 Likes
