Apply for Admission

We are excited that you are ready to join HAA and start your career training.

In order to apply to HAA for admission, please look at the available start dates below and the corresponding application periods. This will tell you when to submit your application for your desired start date.

Application Process
Please note the required documents listed below that must be submitted with your application. A $50 non-refundable fee is charged at the time of application submission.

If an applicant does not complete the second application step and upload the required document within 72 hours of submitting their application, the application will be cancelled, and the applicant will forfeit their application fee.

HAA will notify all applicants of acceptance or denial within 10 business days of the submission of all required application materials.

Applications must be completed 10 days prior to orientation to secure a spot in that orientation class. Registration fees for flight training students must be paid 8 day prior to orientation or the application will be withdrawn.

If an accepted flight training student is delayed, they have 60 days from their scheduled start date to join the program or they will need to submit a new application. If a maintenance students is delayed, HAA will have to cancel their application, and they will have to reapply for the next start date.

Students must be 18 years of age at the time of enrollment.

Ascend  Pilot Academy Application
If your a flight training student and wish to apply for the Ascend Pilot Academy, our partnership with Alaska Airlines, the first step is to apply directly with Alaska and be accepted into the program. You can apply via Alaska’s website. Please don’t complete an HAA application until you are accepted into this program.

Pilot Program Student Fees
Once accepted, pilot program students will need to pay the $100 Registration Fee to secure their spot.

International students will also need to pay a $300 International Application Processing Fee. This fee is non-refundable. Once the registration and application processing fees are paid and your TSA training request has initial approval, HAA will issue your visa paperwork. If there is a change to a student’s start date and HAA must reprocess the application, then $150 fee is charged.

If a logbook evaluation needs to be done to evaluate prior experience, a $500 fee will be charged.

Acceptance into HAA’s program is at the discretion of the school’s admissions team. Acceptance may be revoked prior to enrollment if the admissions team learns new information that they feel would make the applicant unsuccessful in the program. The HAA registration fee will be returned in this case.

Application Process

The documents required for the application are listed below. Once you are ready to apply, click on the application button for the program you wish to apply for. You will be asked to fill out the application and asked to pay a non-refundable $50 application fee. If this fee is not paid, your application is withdrawn. You will then receive an email with instructions on how to upload your required documents.

If you are hoping to join one of our partner programs such as the Ascend Pilot Academy or Portland Community College, please do not apply with HAA until you have been accepted into that program.

Note: HAA is not currently accepting applications for the maintenance program as the April class is full.

Domestic Students (Pilot and Maintenance Programs)

  1. Proof of citizenship – copy of your valid signed passport or valid driver’s license and birth certificate
  2. Proof of education – copy of high school diploma, college diploma, or G.E.D. certificate
  3. FAA medical certificate (only for flight training applicants) – valid first-class or second-class medical certificate with those same privileges
Pilot Program Domestic Student Application

International Students (Pilot Programs Only)

  1. Proof of citizenship – copy of your valid signed passport which must be valid for at least 3 years from program start date
  2. Financial verification – The US government requires students to show proof of monies available to cover the respective training and living expenses for 12 months. Note: more funds will be required to complete the training courses, but HAA only has applicants show funds to cover the average cost of training and housing for 12 months. The proof of funds must meet these requirements:
    1. Statement or bank letter must be in English or include an attached translation with the original statement
    2. Statement or bank letter must show available cash funds or approved loan, no assets such as property, shares, Bitcoin, or other financial products
    3. Statements must be dated within the last 30 days
    4. Statements or letter must include account holder’s name (signed letter of support is required if funds are not in the applicant’s name)
    5. Maximum of 3 statements can be submitted to reach the required amount
    6. Must show a clear ending or available balance that matches the amount required for the applicant’s program listed here (amounts valid starting 11/1/2025):
      • Airplane Professional Pilot Program (standard track) – $67,000 USD
      • Airplane Professional Pilot Program (accelerated track & EASA) – $75,000 USD
      • Helicopter Professional Pilot Program – $91,000 USD
  3. Proof of education – There are three options for proof of education:
    • Copy of high school diploma equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma. This document shows the high school equivalency and requirements by country. Must be in English or include a translation. If submitting a transcript, it must include the graduation date.
    • Copy of college diploma from an accredited university. Must be in English or include a translation.
    • Take the Ability to Benefit Test and pass meeting HAA standards. The test consists of two sections, one math and one verbal. You must pass both sections. The cost for both tests is $50 USD. If you would like to take this test, please ask our admissions team for more information.
  4. Language proficiency – applicants are required to speak, read, write, and understand English and the standard for this English language requirement is listed below. You can take one of these tests or demonstrate this level of English in an interview with an HAA staff member.
    • ICAO: Level 4
    • TOEFL Essentials Test: 8.5
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL IBT): 79 or better
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.5
    • Duolingo English: 105 or better

At orientation, you will be required to possess a first-class or second-class medical certificate with the same privileges.
