
Neale Draper
Associate Professor Neale Draper is the principal heritage consultant of Neale Draper & Associates Pty Ltd., conducting cultural heritage research and management projects across Australia. Neale has more than 40 years of experience in cultural heritage management (government, industry, and community-based) and as a researcher, academic, public servant, and expert witness in the fields of anthropology and archaeology. He has worked on many significant cultural heritage projects with indigenous people throughout Australia, as well as in the USA, Mongolia and Taiwan. He has provided expert reports and testimony on cultural heritage management issues in relation to major resources and infrastructure projects, and has supervised or conducted more than 500 Aboriginal Heritage projects and reports, many of these while CEO and Principal Heritage consultant of Australian cultural Heritage Management Pty Ltd from 1999 to 2015. Neale also has produced Native Title expert reports in SA, WA, NSW, VIC and QLD.
Neale is an Associate Professor in the Department of Archaeology at the Flinders University of South Australia. He is also the deputy chairperson of the Lake Victoria Advisory Committee for the Murray Darling Basin Authority, which manages heritage protection for the highly significant Aboriginal Cultural Landscape at Lake Victoria (a critically important water supply reservoir along the Murray River), including many traditional burial and archaeological sites.
Neale is member of three international scientific committees of UNESCO’s International Committee on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). He is an expert member of the International Scientific Committees on Archaeological Heritage Management (ICAHM) and Intangible cultural Heritage (ICICH), a contributing member of the International Scientific Committee for Cultural Landscapes (ISCCL), as well as a member of the ICOMOS Australia National Scientific Committees for Cultural Landscapes and Cultural Routes (NSC-CLCR) and Intangible Cultural Heritage (NSC-ICH).
