About Flagid

Flagid is a comprehensive web tool for identifying flags regardless of usage, geographic origin, or historical background. It features an extensive database of relevant facts about flags from around the world.

As of today, the database contains over 1360 flags with comprehensive filtering capabilities and detailed vexillological information.

Features

Flagid offers advanced filtering capabilities organized into two main categories:

Visual & Descriptive Criteria

  • Colors: Filter by FIAV color taxonomy (including parent-child color relationships)
  • Shapes: Search by flag shape (rectangular, square, triangular, etc.) and its proportions
  • Divisions: Find flags by field divisions (horizontal, vertical, diagonal, cross, etc.)
  • Elements: Filter by design elements and charges (shapes, animals, symbols, etc.)

Factual Criteria

  • Geography: Filter by continent, region, or specific country/territory
  • Vexilliger (The owner or holder of a flag): Search by entity that owns or is entitled to the flag (country, subdivision, organization, military rank etc.)
  • Usage: Find flags by usage (national, civil, military, naval, etc.)
  • Historical Dates: Temporal filtering by specific date, month, or year to see flags active during that time

Advanced Features

  • Smart Filtering: Hierarchical taxonomies with parent-child relationships for precise searches
  • Combined Queries: Mix visual and factual criteria for complex searches
  • URL Sharing: Direct links to filtered flag charts for easy reference and collaboration
