Migration could be describe as a movement that contains demand for a better life, i.e. demand for housing, demand for job, demand for school, etc… This demand, however, puts out of order urban life and disintegrates the urban system. In Turkey, especially after 1950's, there was huge migration and sometimes this migration has been containing very big numbers in terms of population. Besides, after 1990's, Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey has given out migration, especially via the city of Diyarbakir. The migration, from the city and the region to west side of Turkey, like Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, used Diyarbakir as a stopover. In addition of being a stopover point, Diyarbakir not only gives out migration but also get in migration. This makes Diyarbakir a city that has no history in social life and in urban culture. Shortly, the study will try to question migration and its effects to Turkey's urbanization process in Diyarbakir case.

Eğitim, insanlıkla birlikte başlayan dinamik bir süreçtir. Eğitim programlarının zenginliği, eğit... more Eğitim, insanlıkla birlikte başlayan dinamik bir süreçtir. Eğitim programlarının zenginliği, eğitimin verildiği ortamla değer kazanmaktadır. Nitelikli bir eğitim ise sağlıklı mekân tasarımı ile sağlanabilir. Tasarım sürecinde önceki örneklerden faydalanmak yeni tasarımlarda daha isabetli kararların alınmasına olanak sunabilir. Günümüz eğitim yapılarının ilk örnekleri olan medreseler, Dünya medeniyet tarihinde sistematik olarak eğitim-öğretimin ilk verildiği mekânlardır. Bu çalışmada, kültür ve medeniyet tarihimizde önemli bir yer tutan, günümüze ulaşabilmiş geleneksel eğitim kurumlarından Diyarbakır Suriçi bölgesinde bulunan Parlı (Safa) Medresesi değerlendirilmiş, medresenin mekânsal oluşumu ve kurgusu; kurgunun oluşmasını etkileyen teknik gereksinimler, topoğrafya, coğrafi konum, malzeme ve ulaşım gibi özellikleri incelenerek kayıt altına alınmıştır. Günümüzde tarihi yapılar, birçok farklı nedenlerle tahrip olmakta, terk edilmekte veya yıkılabilmektedir. Yapının sürdürülebilirliği, yapının durumu, niteliği ve toplumun beklentileri belirlendikten sonra işlev verilmesi ile daha mümkün olabilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, insanlığın ortak kültürel değeri olan tarihi yapıların ve özel olarak Parlı Medresesi'nin yaşatılarak korunması ve yapının uygun bir işlevle sürdürülmesi hedeflenmektedir.

Mardin, a historical city located in the Southeastern Region of Turkey, is one of the oldest sett... more Mardin, a historical city located in the Southeastern Region of Turkey, is one of the oldest settlements of the Middle East. The traditional houses of this settlement, positioned on a very steep slope facing the south, have been cascaded. The present study examines the spatial characteristics of a sample Mardin house and its thermal comfort performances. The study also focuses on the ambient temperatures of the following spaces in different seasons: iwan, terrace, the room on the upper floor, rewaq, cellar, the room on the lower floor and the flat roof. The main purpose of the study is to determine the most comfortable spaces in various seasons. According to the findings, the room on the lower floor is the most comfortable living space in autumn and the warmest space in winter, compared to the other spaces. It has been determined that the room on the lower floor (in July) and iwan (in June) are the most comfortable living spaces in summer
