Recently, qualitative studies have been widespread in various areas such as psychology, business,... more Recently, qualitative studies have been widespread in various areas such as psychology, business, and sociology. In this review, the process of qualitative study has been clarified to offer a description of its general process. Basically, the qualitative investigation is exploratory, which indicates an understanding of the results made by the researcher(s). Likewise, designing research is a process or guideline utilized to prepare, implement, and evaluate an idea that the researchers want to reveal about an issue. It is also a plan to answer the problems or concepts of an investigated study. Since qualitative studies help researchers to examine opinions, attitudes, and perspectives of human beings, so it has gained more attention in many fields and especially in the area of social sciences. Accordingly, the qualitative study focuses on how individuals perceive and give meaning to different social behaviors in order to explore people's social observations. This study aims to reveal the qualitative research process and how the data would be collected via this approach. The researchers attempt to announce the significance of the qualitative study and focus group discussion tool (advantages and limitations as well) to propose a better understanding for the academics who want to utilize a qualitative study in social sciences.

Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the significance of digital technology and digital literacy in EFL field. This study aims at finding out EFL in-service secondary school (SS) and high school (HS) teachers' views on the role of digital literacy in their EFL teaching; revealing the level of EFL teachers' digital literacy and its effects on their teaching, and understanding the facilities of the digital tools and challenges in EFL teachers' instructions. Further, this study aims to examine the difference between the thoughts of SS teachers and HS teachers about the role of digital literacy in EFL. To achieve these aims, this study utilized a qualitative paradigm to determine the role of digital literacy in EFL classes concerning the views of Turkish EFL teachers, and their perceptions about digital teaching and learning tools in their instruction. First it was found that HS teachers knew the term digital literacy more than the SS teachers. Both SS and HS teachers were confident using digital tools and being digitally literate although some of them could not define the term properly. Secondly digital literacy was claimed to have positive effects on language teaching. Thirdly, all the participants agreed with the fact that the innovations of the digital technologies facilitated their language instruction. Lastly, digital tools had many challenges due to some problems besides their advanteages. All in all, when taken together, the results of this study confirmed the vital role of digital literacy in EFL teaching in the digital age that teachers should acquire and use it actively. Therefore, EFL teachers should incorporate digital literacy in using different digital technologies such as Web 2 tools having several facilities into their instructions. The EFL teachers also admitted the need for trainings and seminars to help them using those tools and become digital natives.

As it is clear, the pandemic has got side effects, especially in the scope of education and English as foreign language (EFL) teaching. Students at all levels were encouraged to continue learning despite the difficulties they had throughout the crisis. This study aims to investigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the field of EFL, particularly by revealing the viewpoints of secondary school students on pandemic remote education and its impact on their English language learning process. Thus, it was designed as qualitative research; interviews were held to probe indepth into their perceptions on EFL teaching throughout pandemic remote education. Interviews were conducted with thirty secondary school students chosen voluntarily. The participants were chosen from different schools. The data obtained from the interviews were analysed through qualitative content analysis by NVivo 8 software program. The results revealed that participants declared that most of the teachers used course books and gave pencil-paper assignments. It was also highlighted that teachers emphasised reading and listening skills in their lessons rather than writing and speaking. Another significant finding of the study is that the participants preferred face-to-face foreign language teaching to remote teaching. Nevertheless, they admitted that online language teaching has several advantages comparing to traditional face-to-face education besides its challenges such as technical, economic, contextual, and individual problems. Lastly, several noteworthy suggestions were made regarding teachers, policymakers, families, and students themselves.

Language is connected to culture and societies, in which people need to communicate with one another. English as a lingua franca provides a means of communication among different cultures. Thus, English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching classes offer perfect situations to foster ICC. From this viewpoint, this article gives an account to raise awareness of ICC in EFL settings by explaining ICC and its relationship with language, describing the significance of ICC, and illustrating some suggestions in the literature for the enhancement of ICC in EFL classes. This paper seeks to improve EFL teachers’ understanding of intercultural communication and to help them with their classroom practices.
