Josip Lorincz

Josip Lorincz received the BSc (MS equivalent) and PhD degrees in telecommunications engineering and computer science from the University of Split, Croatia in 2002 and 2010, respectively. In 2003, he joined Department of electronics and computing in Faculty of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and naval architecture - FESB, University of Split, Croatia. He was a teaching assistant on several undergraduate and graduate courses, namely: Wireless and mobile communication networks, IP Communications, Photonic systems, Transmission systems, Digital signal processing, Local and access networks, Engineering graphics and presentation. In 2019 he became Associate Professor and teaches the following courses: Network and mobile operating systems, Computer networks, Planning and implementation of computer networks, Local and access networks, Materials in electrical engineering, Ships local area computer networks.

As a scientist, he participated in research activities on the following national projects: “Advanced heterogeneous network technologies” financed by Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (MZOS), Government of Croatia, “Research in telecommunications” financed by the company Ericsson Nikola Tesla d.d. and “ Advanced network technologies” financed by University of Split, Croatia. He also participated in the national education project named “Modernisation of doctoral education through implementation of the Croatian Qualification Framework – MODOC” financed by the EU program IPA. In addition to national projects, he participated in the international scientific project financed by the EU FP7 program named “Establish a Pan-European Information Space to Enhance seCurity of Citizens - EPISECC“.

In academic year 2009/2010 he was visiting researcher at Information and Communication Technology Department (Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingeneria) of the Technical University of Milan (Politecnico di Milano), Milan, Italy. He was involved as project leader on two international projects financed by Croatian Science Foundation (NZZ) and Unity through Knowledge Fund (UKF) in the area of energy-efficient wireless access networks. Since 2001 he has participated in the organization of the IEEE International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM). In the frame of the SoftCOM conference, since 2010 he organizes and co-chairs the Symposium on Green networking and Computing.

His current research interests include: energy-efficient networking and computing, wireless and mobile networks, optimization in telecommunications, advanced design, management and analyses of computer heterogeneous networks, and performance evolution of routing protocols. He has published more than 35 scientific journal and conference papers and was co-advisor on many student graduation theses.

He serves as Technical Program Committee (TPC) member of many international conferences such as: IEEE GreenCom, IEEE GLOBECOM, IEEE ICC, IEEE VTC, SoftCOM, etc. In addition, he serves as guest editor and reviewer for many international scientific journals, and evaluator for different national and international projects. Since 2012, as consultant he cooperates with many Croatian companies and public sector institutions on a different professional projects in the area of telecommunications, energy auditing and energy-efficiency improvement of the ICT and public lighting systems.

In 2012, he established the Croatian ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Chapter where he currently serves as the Chapter Chair. Since 2017, he is the IEEE Senior member and the ACM senior member. He is an active member of: IEEE organization (Comsoc and TCGCC society), ACM (SIGCOMM) society, Mathematical Optimization Society (MOS), CCIS society and Alumni FESB association. Between 2003 and 2010 Josip Lorincz has been actively involved in the organization of Cisco Networking Academy in FESB-Split, where he has taught the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) program for more than ten generations of attendees. He has obtained industry-recognized CCNA, CCAI, and BCMSN certificates issued by company Cisco Systems Inc.

During his graduate and postgraduate education, for excellent results Josip Lorincz received fellowships and rewards from: Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (MZOS) of the Republic of Croatia, city of Split, Okrug Gornji County and Erasmus mobility program. In 2013, he was awarded as outstanding young researcher by the Croatian Academy of engineering (HATZ). Additionally, he receives awards and acknowledgements from Faculty of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and naval architecture (FESB) and Okrug Community for educational, scientific and research results and promotion of science.
