Secondo l'ONU per 'Violenza contro le donne' s'intende ogni atto di violenza basata sul genere, riconducibile a danni fisici, sessuali o mentali, o comunque di sofferenza, più frequentemente agiti sulle donne, incluse le caratteristiche di coercizioni o deprivazioni arbitrarie della libertà, che avvengono sia nella sfera privata che pubblica.

Los estudios relacionados con la salud –en particular los estudios de medicina y farmacología– se han realizado tradicionalmente con muestras de hombres, generalizando sus resultados a las mujeres. Este tipo de estudios no tiene en cuenta, pues, las singularidades tanto fisiológicas como sociales del colectivo femenino. El objetivo de este capítulo es describir un modelo multinivel que garantice la inclusión permanente del género tanto en la investigación como en la práctica de la salud. El modelo se representa en forma piramidal e incluye 4 niveles (desde el más básico al más global): 1) el nivel de individuo y de grupo de personas, 2) el nivel de las disciplinas y profesiones del área de salud, 3) la comunidad científica y políticas de reconocimiento de género, y 4) las políticas de salud. If we imagine the doctor-patient meeting as a path in stages, we see it characterized by the first step of anamnesis; a diagnosis phase; a therapeutic prescription and finally a stage of healing or temporary healing with risk of relapse, or stabilization of a chronic pathology. Gender or gender-specific medicine is an emerging clinical discipline that combines biomedical research with developmental psychosocial processes. It encompass es differences between males and females pertaining to both psychological and social aspects. In gender-specific studies, however, the risks for gender bias in measurement should be carefully evaluated, and several aspects are currently under reconsideration in biomedical research, including study samples, methodology, the sick role within the framework of social relations, and the inevitable stimuli imposed by societal changes. Research in Occupational Health Psychology (OHP) demonstrates that different (work and non-work) environmental and individual characteristics might affect workers’ well-being. However, these findings have been generalized to both women and men. Both women’s and men’s occupational health merit scientific attention, as researchers need to consider the effect of gender on how occupational health issues are experienced, expressed, defined, and addressed. It thus seems important to expand on current knowledge within the discipline of OHP by including Gender Studies (GS). The aim of this paper is once the theoretical framework is established, to summarize the main factors that have been found empirically to describe psychosocial health differences/similarities between women and men at work. Finally some advices are given about a new agenda for future research and intervention in the field of OHP that takes the gender perspective into account.

Transitions into and out of Daylight Saving Time (DST) may disrupt circadian rhythms and lead to sleep disturbance and deprivation. A first report observed an association between DST and acute myocardial infarction (AMI), especially after the spring shift and in women. We tried to identify and evaluate the possible association between DST and AMI, using the MEDLINE, EMBASE and Google Scholar electronic database (years 2009-2016), with regards to the searching terms 'daylight saving time', 'daylight saving time' plus 'gender', and 'daylight saving time' plus 'acute myocardial infarction'. In total, 72, 10, and 6 studies were found, respectively. Overall, 6 studies, including a total of 87,994 cases, resulted to satisfy the searching request, and were included in the present analysis. All studies confirmed a higher occurrence of AMI in the spring shift, ranging from 4 to 29%, whereas only 1 study showed a higher occurrence of AMI in the autumn shift. By the way, in 5 studies providing separate analysis, the results by sex were not univocal. In fact, as for the spring shift, 2 studies did not show differences between men and women, 2 reported a higher frequency in men, and 1 in women. Regarding the autumn shift, only 1 study reported a higher occurrence of AMI in women. These results support the presence of an association between DST and a modest increase of AMI occurrence, especially for the spring shift, and with no definite gender specific differences.

The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the relationship between cancer, non-immunologic comorbidity, estimated by International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) codification, gender and in-hospital mortality (IHM) in a large sample of renal transplant recipients (RTRs) living in the region Emilia-Romagna (RER) of Italy. We evaluated IHM in RTRs admitted between 2000 and 2013 recorded in the RER database. By using ICD-9-CM codes, the Elixhauser index (EI) was calculated, and cancers were identified and classified as skin cancers (SC), solid organ cancers (SOC) and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD). IHM was the dependent variable of the multivariate models, while age, gender, EI corrected removing the effect of malignancies (cEI), and different types of cancer were the independent ones. Readmissions to hospital after discharge are considered adverse, serious and costly outcomes. In the last years, two new scores have been proposed to identify patients at high risk of hospital readmission, the HOSPITAL and the Elders Risk Assessment (ERA) indexes. The aim of this study was to evaluate these two scores and the risk of death among internal medicine readmitted patients. During a 30-month period, we identified 613 readmitted patients out of 13,237 admissions. Age, sex, length-of-hospital stay (LOS), and deaths were retrospectively analyzed. Readmissions with diagnosis coincident with the index hospitalization were classified as avoidable, whilst those with a different diagnosis were defined as non-avoidable. HOSPITAL score for 30-day potentially avoidable readmission and ERA indexes were calculated. Readmitted patients (56.6% women), were aged 79±10.4 years. La storia politica e sociale della Romagna è profondamente legata ad un modello di "vita associata" peculiare, al tempo stesso capace di suscitare grande interesse, aperta ammirazione ed immancabile preoccupazione 1 . Fin dalla metà dell'Ottocento, palesandosi apertamente in occasione del famoso dibattito parlamentare sulla reale natura delle associazioni esistenti in Romagna 2 , la propensione di queste popolazioni per la politica ha dunque calamitato l'interesse generale degli osservatori 3 . Al punto che tale stretto rapporto, confermato e approfondito nei successivi decenni, ha finito per trasformarsi in vero e proprio tratto identitario 4 . In chiusura di un lungo saggio dedicato alle modalità attraverso cui la modernizzazione di questo particolare territorio s'era realizzata, lo storico Pier Paolo D'Attorre ricordava come «la "grande trasformazione" non [avesse qui] avuto i caratteri di radicalità che generalmente associamo a quell'espressione» 1 . Grazie alla compresenza di determinati e peculiari fattori -la lunga "tenuta" delle campagne e del lavoro contadino; il ruolo di "protezione sociale" svolto dal sistema cooperativo; l'asfitticità delle esperienze imprenditoriali di volta in volta organizzate dalla locale borghesia; la solidità delle culture politiche e dell'intreccio da queste stabilite con il territorio -il tachimetro della storia aveva nel Ravennate mantenuto un'andatura costante: moderata, ma prudente; priva di vere accelerazioni, ma anche al sicuro dai relativi rischi d'incidente o di

Se si va a guardare all'interno di questa cifra statistica si scopre poi come essa si componga di due distinti e fattori: a fronte di un aumento contenuto nel circondario interno (+9%) va infatti registrata una crescita impetuosa in quello esterno (+138%). Dunque, la tendenza modernafavorita dallo svilupparsi di un sistema di trasporti pubblici a buon mercato -poneva problemi nuovi agli amministratori cittadini: la questione degli alloggi, il problema del risanamento della città, la distribuzione dei servizi e l'esigenza di affidarsi a piani regolatori. I bisogni di una città in straordinaria crescita divennero allora il carburante per la modernizzazione. E tale processo fu presto intercettato dal movimento delle municipalizzazioni. Opportunamente, quindi, ha scritto Roberto Balzani:

Con una buona dose di superficialità continua ad avere corso un vecchio pregiudizio sulla cronaca; soprattutto se dedicata alla dimensione locale del vivere collettivo. Anche se si è costretti ad ammetterne l'importanza decisiva per conquistare pubblico (e, con esso, pubblicità e risorse), rimane invalsa l'abitudine a non riconoscerle piena dignità. Il prestigio, all'interno delle redazioni dei giornali, è di norma un affare delegato ad altri settori: al commento politico piuttosto che alle pagine culturali; alla presenza di riconosciuti editorialisti piuttosto che alla capacità dei giornalisti di compiere ricerche approfondite. Si tratta, a ben vedere, di una ennesima dimostrazione di provincialismo, oltre che di mancanza di sensibilità storica. Questo non solo perché l'occuparsi della cronaca ha rappresentato il gradino di partenza per molte delle più importanti carriere giornalistiche, ma anche perché trascura il fatto che per svolgere bene il ruolo di cronista occorre una formidabile sensibilità per le cose e gli umori della città nella quale si vive e grazie alla quale si lavora.

La storiografia, nazionale e estera, ha recentemente dimostrato un ampio ritorno d'interesse per la Prima guerra mondiale e per i molteplici processi che questa ultima innescò o contribuì ad accelerare 1 . In particolare, gli studi più recenti hanno accertato l'importanza di questo conflitto europeo quale luogo, ora di incubazione, ora di pandemica diffusione, di complessi movimenti di trasformazione culturale e politica. Quei quattro anni di trincea e di sconvolgimento delle coscienze, dunque, rappresentarono un momento di cesura, un tornante periodizzante nella storia del Novecento 2 .
