Things seem to be coming together. Yesterday, I tweeted: "As my mother fries chicken in the background, I think it finally sunk in that I am going to Japan. *blink*" And that's exactly how it hit me. It's kind of insane how fast paced its going to be from here on out, though I am doing my usual procrastination schtick.
Went to the bank yesterday to put in an order for yen, and picked it up today -- much faster than expected. Just got back from the dentist about a half hour ago. My COE should be arriving Friday, which would mean I could actually apply for my visa here. If not, well, I suppose I'll be taking it with me.
Note to self -- fill out visa paperwork before hand. As in, tonight.
Have been going through a couple of blogs recently. Three are by people who have worked at MIL in the past, and one is for someone who will be starting at the same time as me!
Last night I took out the other suitcase, and on advice from my friend, spread out my work and casual clothes between the two in case one got lost or delayed. So now my black suitcase has all my brown toned clothes, and my green suitcase has all my black toned clothes. *nods* Still have room and weight left in both, but I'm not sure it will be enough to fit my winter clothes in.
Oh yeah. That. So my mom and I stopped into DHL to check shipping rates. Eeek, and double-eek. Apparently, there no longer is any sort of surface mail for international shipping, which means a 50 lb, 19" cube box would cost, oh, around 369 USD to ship priority (2 days), or 295 USD to ship express (4 days). There is nothing slower. DDDD: My mother's solution: "I'll pay the extra for you to have overweight bags, or an extra suitcase or whatever. FIT IT IN." My solution: Vacuum pack winter clothes to fit in a couple of 12"x12"x5.5" flat rate boxes that will cost 54 USD each if kept under 20lbs a box. I think it'll end up as a combination of both.
On a happier note, I'm totally taking my sister's fluffy winter coat with a fur trim hood. It is Adorable. And it shall be mine, muahahaha. Ahem.
Right now I'm going through my discs to consolidate all the data cds and put my dvds into the disk binder thing. I'm also debating whether or not to bring my external hard drive. It will probably be one or the other. Hrm.
So, there was my first research binge of the night. Now back to looking up Chiba, Japan.
Oh, yeah, completely forgot to mention! So, MIL offered me the job. Morinokodomo, on the other hand, needs someone sooner than my paperwork will process, so tada! I'm going to Chiba. Woo.
So, at final count (so I can take the above sticky down:
JAPAN JET: Rejected 1/30. MIL: Applied 5/22. First interview completed 5/31. Second interview completed 6/14. Offered position 6/15. Hosaka English Academy: Applied 5/26. No word. Had interview with MIL. Was recommended for second interview, so yay. Still have not responded to Morinokodomo's email about further contact -- there was mention that one of the former teachers would be asked to come and sub for a month or so while my visa stuff processed, but we'll see. I feel pushed/rushed by Mori, yet I'm antsy about MIL not getting back to me chopchop.
Meh.
Also, it looks like the list of references MIL asked for weren't supposed to be personal references? It wasn't specified (though, I had assumed that they were not employment ones since they had just asked prior to that for contact info from my previous employers...), so oh well.
Filled out form for degree verification. Am having them send me three copies -- one so I can look at it and see if it has necessary info, or photocopy/fax it over so the schools can check. The other two to ship. Hopefully this works in lieu of my actual diploma, which isn't going to be shipped until late JULY. ARGH.
On a fannish note.... OMG I'M SO SORRY I HAVEN'T BEEN RPING PPL. Not that anyone else is, much, though that might be because of me. Only a little...
I'm going to be doing this a lot for my own peace of mind/procrastination, so feel free to skip. Also, am not letting myself start going through Chinese and Korean school applications until I either get this batch of Japanese ones done, or June starts.
At about 1:30 last night, I receive emails from MIL re: setting up a Skype interview session. Am cautiously excited :D
Didn't bother trying to go to sleep afterwards, and read fanfiction past 3AM instead.
BTW, taking this opportunity to pimp my Twitter account, @feikoi, where I post what I'm reading and what I recommend. Check my favorites -- all good reads are archived there.
Just sent resume, etc. to Hosaka English House. I have an actually decent photo, finally. But yeah. *crosses fingers*
Have five more applications in my draft box to fiddle with.
Been sewing again. This time, I have some awesome wine colored stretch pinstripe, and I'm almost done with a pencil skirt! Am currently being lazy and will be topstitching instead of facing the waist, and the bottom will likely be hand done. Also, need to haul out the serger and do all the seams. But its cute, and tailored! I have a muslin pattern and everything now, so spiff.
This might also help for the whole paneled loli-skirt thing, too, just flare the bottom a lot (will be uneven for the back, which would be 2 panel instead of three, but I like back zippers more, anyway).
Will need to make a vest to match the skirt at some point, and possibly a jacket. The skirt took less than a yard to make, and I'm pretty sure there was around 4+ yards left on the bolt when I got it... hmm.
Generally speaking, I set the deposit at a certain amount per book, unless you have a hard spending limit. So in this case, two books (of unknown prices) plus an extra spending limit of Y2000 would…

I have a question. Suppose that I make an order for circle A "Anything R18 for x/x ship" and they don't have it, do I still have to pay for the circle fee? I've been on the MP20 website and only a…
Oh no, I'm sorry! The people who were initially interested ended up dropping out for various reasons, so there won't be an anthology :( I'm trying to put together an avengers recipe booklet (of all…
