mmm...

Note: tomatoes smell horrendous when boiling them to remove the skins. Also, they feel gross when peeling them. *shudder* Seeding them's... ok.

So... since (silly me) I got two and a half pounds of hamburg and no spaghetti sauce, and i had about a dozen tomatoes picked last week from my plants in my greenhouse course... well, I decided to make tomato sauce.

Problem one: no tomato paste (or canned goods of any kind, unless you count the lone tuna)

Problem two: I have no effing idea what I'm doing.

So I end up pureeing a third, pureeing the f**k out of another third (yay indescript pink liquid) and dicing the rest, mixing it with some olive oil and some italian seasoning. Its sitting in the crockpot now, with [probably over-]garlicked meatballs. The meat should be fine, but who knows about the sauce.

And tomorrow, I have the start of a Japanese oral to do. (and tuesday, and another day) Wednesday is a Chinese Business Culture presentation on intellectual property rights, more specifically trademarks. Thursday is a presentation on cucumbers and our lab notebooks for the GH course are due.

The week after that has the Structure of Chinese final exam (tues), the Business chinese exam and CBC quiz (wed), and the JLPT on thursday. Technically, the Japanese Language Placement Test is optional, but its 5% extra credit on our final grade, and I want to make sure I pass the class. I think i have a C right now *wince*.

After that is exam week, but I'm done with exams before may first, i think. Its so weird. and then I need to alter a regency tailcoat pattern to make zech's coat for the 16th of may. *dies*

And all that makes me wonder why I'm wasting precious hours on the computer... and cooking... and drawing... *smacks self*

internet

Well, the school's network was majorly effed up for the past week -- of course, I'm the last one to have the internet back. Meh.

It gave m e a good excuse to push Friendly Hostility off onto my roommates at least, as well as reading actual books.

No. Really.

Aaaaaaaaand I have no life. And if anyone knows of any job opportunities or internships for a Chinese major who's minoring in Horticultural Sciences, drop me a line. *grins* I've been getting funny looks from the profs in the plant classes I'm taking this semester when my introduction is not something like "organic hort major" but "Chinese". I'm beginning to love the double take I, a stocky female with distinctly Aryan coloring, is doing studying Chinese, and is sitting in a Small Tree and Fruit Production class. I collect odd looks nowadays -- deliberately, at least. I suppose its better to invite the lodd ooks than garner them for doing something normal.

Meh. Babble. Why am I babbling again? I need to update my websites. Like, am in dire need thereof. I'd rather plotbunny.

Speaking of, I've actually come up with a basic plot structure for an HP fic. I got stalled on the AB/GW fic, sadly -- I just can't seem to come up with a plot direction for that one. Maybe later, but I only have one friend to bounce the AB ideas off of, so... *sigh*

Ok, back to reading Dresden Files before I mire myself in a mental debate as to Heero's wereanimal(s).
Signed up for classes. Chinese, Intro to Linguistics, Calc 2, Programming Fundamentals for CIS Majors. I just found out that I could have taken that this term, which ticks me off... shouldn't the advisers know that? Gah. Maybe its because I'm only listed as a Chinese Major.

Ok, enough bitching. It took me hours to finally put the schedule together. Ashi-chan is in chinese with me, and Kuri-chan is in linguistics with me. w00t.

Before I do anything else, I want to post my experience today.

In Turlington Plaza (at UF), there were two men with giant signs preaching about how god is angry with everyone, and everyone is going to hell.

Also, there were large crowds around these speakers, asking them questions and refuting EVERYTHING THE MEN SAID. It was wonderful. Considering that UF is one of the most liberal universities in the southeast, it wasnt the best choice for these guys to come here and preach fire and brimstone at "computer nerds, witches, child molesting homosexuals, effeminate intellectuals, sports fanatics, pro-abortion baby killers, mormans, jews of the synagogue of satan..." I'm serious, these are only a fraction of the things that their signs said. It was absolutely ridiculous. It got to the point where a bunch of us started counting how many of those things we were (I got to nine), and counting halfsies.

Also, a group of PRIDE people were there, holding signs "Love is Beautiful" and "Hate is not a Family Value" and demonstrating AGAINST these religious assholes. And the Christian kids there were saying that "we're not like that. God loves all these people before they're saved, and God even loves this idiot". It was... mind boggling.

I have pics and vids on my camera, but I need to find out if our foneplan supports data transfer before I can send any of it.

I'm just so proud of the people that stood up to these "preachers", even if just by applauding the trumpet player from Eric's frat who drowned out the preachers. From some perspectives, it was pointless to say anything to the men because they obviously weren't going to change their minds. But we were arguing for the benefit of the listeners, the crowd that gathered there. We made the point, I think. Hate is not a good value, whether christian or not. Such blindness is kinda ridiculous, and some of the gawkers were just laughing because of how DUMB they sounded. Eric didn't find it to be a laughing matter, but I do somewhat understand where some people who only saw the humor came from.

Ok, I've cut into most of my note-taking time, and I still have to pay off my boarding fee....

EDIT: I also saw two (cute) guys kissing today... *dies and goes to yaoi heaven*

not again...

umm...yeah... due to inclement weather conditions, i'm not going back home tomorrow... maybe next weekend.

Also! I'm considering going for a minor in Horticultural Sciences. Yes, plants, and growing them. Blame it on IB. And Ackroyd. I really liked the labs with macro-biology -- i dislike microscopes very much, but like growing plants. I'm thinking that this minor might be even less useful than my current major, but... *shrug* ya never know.

So, currently on my to do list:

East Asian Lang and Lit: Major
Computer Science: Major
Linguistics: Minor
?Asian Studies (dunno if this works with the major): Minor

Others currently being contemplated:

Majors:
Computer & Information Science (CompSci+Business)

Minors:
Business Administration
Entrepeneurship
Horticultural Sciences
German Studies

Yeah, this is a lot of stuff. Oh, and reminder to self -- Add in the AP credits for Bio.

first day

i thought i'd post before I fell asleep and forgot everything.

So my grandfather ended up coming with us. So...we moved stuff. And put away stuff. And set stuff up. Yeah. Not much surprise there. My mom made me a nice little gift box of junk food -- w00t! And then we went to the grocery store to pick up soup and tuna and mayo and bread and tea and nail clippers. And breakfast snacks.

Went to this "meet and greet" bit for Honors. Gah. Socializing in a crowded room. Met some people, won't remember their names. Left at the same time as another guy on my floor, named Paul. It seems we all identify each other by first name and major. He's aerospace engineering. Met the RA earlier, Robert, who's pretty nice.

Met Ashley. Was really awkward this afternoon, but thats ok. Anyway, came back from the social at eight twenty, was planning on taking a manga and reading it in the lounge area with my pocky, but someone kept calling my cell phone, an Andrea, who I think had the wrong number. I gave up and stayed in the room. A little after nine, Chelsey calls, and she and laura, rachel and jessica are outside, wondering if i wanted to come out and talk. Its so much easier to be with people I know, have history with, and lacking in awkwardness around. I think we've gotten over the whole awkwardness bit with the southeast ib kids, because we're not afraid to... well, much of anything.

Got back, and at around ten, Ashley comes over. (I think her roommate was on the phone, and was talking about "private things". Gah.) So, it was a bit stilted at first, but we started discussing anime and such. She's not a big fan of slash, but she doesn't scorn it, and knows a lot of ppl who like it, so its fine. I dont know a lot of the animes she was talking about, but again, its ok. She hasn't seen Full Metal Alchemist. I'm going to correct that. Muahahaha.

She left at like, two fifteen. My eyes hurt. My brain hurts. I'm tired. I think I'm going to read a chapter, then sleep.

Generally speaking, I set the deposit at a certain amount per book, unless you have a hard spending limit. So in this case, two books (of unknown prices) plus an extra spending limit of Y2000 would…

If I don't pick up anything from the table, you don't pay the fee!

This event has honestly grown too large for me to be able to scan over all the tables in a section for a particular pairing. It…
