Well that's embarrassing...

Apologies for the massive fail of the last post. Oops.

In any case, I'm going to Kyoto! Woo! Meeting my friend Kuri there on Friday, and we'll be staying there until Monday evening. We're going through guidebooks and online travel sites, but I welcome any input on places to see and things to do!

Things we currently have on the list:

Central Kyoto (where we're staying?)
  • Costume Museum (OMG SQUEE HEIAN REPLICAS)
  • Toji Temple Market (I've been looking forward to this also since before I came to Japan, lol)
  • Nijo Castle
  • Imperial Palace
  • Toei Uzumasa Eigamura Theme Park
  • Museum of Kyoto
  • Nanzen-ji
  • Ginkaku-ji (apparently there's a road between this and Nanzen-ji that has a traditional teahouse we should stop at, according to my students)
  • Fushimi Inari Temple
  • Kiyomizu-dera -- best view of Kyoto
  • Iwatayama Monkey Park
  • Arashiyama area -- best place for trees, apparently :P
Also wanted to go to Nara, and see the deer at Nara-koen, and the various temples including Todaiji, with the huge bronze Buddha. I've been told that there's an area in Nara where the historical dramas are filmed because its all still in Meiji style, though I'm not sure if I've confused that with the Eigamura park... And in Kyoto, there's Gion (sp?), where the maiko are...

So, yes. Suggestions, anyone?
