Travel update
Hey all. Trying to be a little better about this.
Things seem to be coming together. Yesterday, I tweeted: "As my mother fries chicken in the background, I think it finally sunk in that I am going to Japan. *blink*" And that's exactly how it hit me. It's kind of insane how fast paced its going to be from here on out, though I am doing my usual procrastination schtick.
Went to the bank yesterday to put in an order for yen, and picked it up today -- much faster than expected. Just got back from the dentist about a half hour ago. My COE should be arriving Friday, which would mean I could actually apply for my visa here. If not, well, I suppose I'll be taking it with me.
Note to self -- fill out visa paperwork before hand. As in, tonight.
Have been going through a couple of blogs recently. Three are by people who have worked at MIL in the past, and one is for someone who will be starting at the same time as me!

Last night I took out the other suitcase, and on advice from my friend, spread out my work and casual clothes between the two in case one got lost or delayed. So now my black suitcase has all my brown toned clothes, and my green suitcase has all my black toned clothes. *nods* Still have room and weight left in both, but I'm not sure it will be enough to fit my winter clothes in.
Oh yeah. That. So my mom and I stopped into DHL to check shipping rates. Eeek, and double-eek. Apparently, there no longer is any sort of surface mail for international shipping, which means a 50 lb, 19" cube box would cost, oh, around 369 USD to ship priority (2 days), or 295 USD to ship express (4 days). There is nothing slower. DDDD: My mother's solution: "I'll pay the extra for you to have overweight bags, or an extra suitcase or whatever. FIT IT IN." My solution: Vacuum pack winter clothes to fit in a couple of 12"x12"x5.5" flat rate boxes that will cost 54 USD each if kept under 20lbs a box. I think it'll end up as a combination of both.
On a happier note, I'm totally taking my sister's fluffy winter coat with a fur trim hood. It is Adorable. And it shall be mine, muahahaha. Ahem.
Right now I'm going through my discs to consolidate all the data cds and put my dvds into the disk binder thing. I'm also debating whether or not to bring my external hard drive. It will probably be one or the other. Hrm.
