luna

Dammit.... had something typed up, then lj crapped out on me. Screw it.

Library had a booksale -- got another old book, yes poetry. Love
collecting old books. There's no date on this, but my dad was guessing
1930s from the typecast.

Anyway, borrowed a book, too. Luna, by Julie Anne Peters. This book is
wonderful, and in a genre I wouldn't have expected in the young adult
section (especially on display... the library system around here
doesn't necessarily have the... widest range). I was sobbing
by the end. I have a wet pillowcase to prove it. Since I suck at
summaries, I'm going to put the book jacket text here.

"Luna," she repeated softly, more to herself than me.
"Appropriate, wouldn't you say? A girl who can only be seen by
moonlight?"

Regan's brother, Liam, can't stand the person he is during the day.
Like the moon from whom Liam has chosen his female namesake, his true
self, Luna, reveals herself only at night. For years, Liam has
transformed himself into the beautiful girl he longs to be with help
from his sister's clothes and makeup in the secrecy of their basement
bedrooms. Now, everything is about to change -- Luna is preparing to
emerge from her cocoon. But are Liam's family and friends ready to
welcome Luna into their lives?

Compelling and provocative, this is a groundbreaking novel about a transgender teen's struggle for self-identity and acceptance.
