The integration of geographic data in a Geographic Information System is necessary that it has sp... more The integration of geographic data in a Geographic Information System is necessary that it has spatial reference. If not, need to perform the process of georeferencing. Currently, this task has become routine in GIS, being carried out quickly and easily. However, this is a critical task and if not performed correctly, affects the result of the work mainly cartographic quality. The objective of this paper is to present the process of georeferencing a Digital Terrain Chart since its inclusion in software by the end product, Georeferenced Digital Terrain Chart. For this, a map prepared by IBGE was used. For the development of geo-referencing, has been selected Terrain Chart Boquira using ArcGIS software, version 10.2 and the work shown step by step how to perform this processing.

For decades the main way to share and store spatial data was performed by means of printed files ... more For decades the main way to share and store spatial data was performed by means of printed files and recorded in analog medium (paper or photo). Today, with the implementation of digital systems and the internet it has become more practical and fast, culminating in the dissemination of information. In Brazil, one of the agency responsible for territorial mapping is the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), which has an electronic site in which offers numerous cartographic documents, such as the Topographical Maps. However, as most of these materials were fabricated in analog medium, it was necessary to effect the conversion to digital form. This process involves the discretization and quantization of the information and it was done in monochrome mode. Because the amount of map information, it was necessary to separate them in Photolithography. The objective of this work is to demonstrate how these materials can be purchased on the website of IBGE, to describe the process of converting from analog to digital and its division into Photolithography, as well the normative used in the naming of these files. With this, these files can be better harnessed and used, especially in a geographic database and a Geographic Information System.

With the acquisition of a spatial file the first question is alluding to spatial reference, in ot... more With the acquisition of a spatial file the first question is alluding to spatial reference, in other words, the relevant certification to its location on the Earth’s surface information. Commonly we use the Terrestrial Reference System to identify this position. If the file does not contain such information, should perform the process called georeferencing, basically composed of three stages: coordinate transformation, inverse mapping and resampling. The success of georeferencing directly involves cartographic quality. Thereby, the purpose of this article is to do a conceptual and methodological review of the process of georeferencing and its implication as a cartographic document.
