Eight hundred thousand people (approximately) will be swarming Golden Gate Park across from me this weekend for the Outside Lands music festival, and my only reaction is a grumbly "Get off my damn lawn, you hippies" because they'll all be clogging my bus stop and making it hard to get to and from work... not to mention go for a jog. I don't actually even know that many bands playing, which is funny because I miraculously have the ENTIRE WEEKEND OFF.

Which: I do not recall the last time I had two whole days off in a row, much less two weekend days off, completely. It's glorious. My goal is to write for 4 hours each day, exercise (yoga! jogging! HIKING AT LAND'S END), and to clean my apartment, Mad Max at Thunder-Dome style. I also want to make a point to see either "Inception" or "Sherlock," since everyone on my f-list has been ruining their collective panties over those two things recently.

Also, catch up on my sleep. Note to self: do not spend the entire weekend sleeping, no matter how nice that sounds. Oh god, I have to wash my sheets. It's an emergency, people.

This entry is turning dangerously stream-of-consciousness, which can't be good. So I think I'm going to end it here and wish everyone a nice Friday. ♥

My Firefox is at the point where if I don't close some tabs I'm going to have to open a new window instead, which: durrrh. So here, have a bunch of links I've been meaning to sort through & read. Too bad I have no days off ever!

Twig's post about Copyright Laws & Fandom. One of a whole series of posts in response to the most recent kerfuffle over the "legitimacy" of published fiction versus fandom... among other things.

Banana Peanut Butter smoothie recipe. I have recently become a huge smoothie fanatic. I live in California, okay, don't judge me. It's probably one of my few totally healthy habits.

Who Draws the Borders of Culture? A really interesting NYT piece that I should archive, discussing whose property cultural artifacts are and what sorts of responsibilities cultures have to each other. While fully acknowledging my own possible bias in this situation, in this case, I come down heavily on the side of the British Museum. Your mileage may vary; it remains a provoking argument.

So Do You Write Fantasy or Literary Fiction or Oh God What Does That Even Mean An essay about the labels stuck, sometimes arbitrarily, onto types of writing. I really enjoyed this essay. (And I fully approve of writing that straddles or utterly defies genre writing. YES PLEASE.)

Haruki Murakami and the Art of the Day Interview and discussion of Haruki Murakami's daily life vs. the impact it has on his writing. I love essays & discussions like these.

In other news, I signed up for startrekbigbang and I have finally banged out the details of the story I'm going to be writing. I'm revamping my current "Pretty Woman" AU and I'm really excited about the direction I'm taking it in. This is probably the most ambitious writing project I've undertaken by myself, and I'm really excited because I think it's going to go really well; it doesn't feel huge or daunting at all. It's just gonna take a little time, that's all.

I'm going home to Ohio next month for about a week and a half; I expect to complain about the heat a lot while I'm there, catch up with friends, scream my head off on roller coasters, and do a lot of writing.

Nothing much else is going on. Summer is here, heralding baseball season in full swing, actual heat, and summer concert season. Writing & working more than ever, which explains the busyness nicely, and while I could always use more free time, I have yet to convince someone to pay me big bucks to fuck around with my friends and write.

Hope everyone's weekend is going well. ♥
