Hello from Missouri! I don't have time or bandwidth to do a halfway interesting update, so I'll do a few bullet points instead.

+ No one seems to camp with anything but RVs anymore. Maybe it's just the time of year?
+ We got randomly assaulted by a skunk last night. No one was injured (or scent-bombed) but we did end up hiding in the car for a bit. It was tre amusing.
+ We're camping at an RV park in Missouri right now. The sunset was absolutely BEAUTIFUL, and it's kind of funny, because we're in the middle of a damn field surrounded by a bunch of RVs, along with some dial-up internet masquerading as wi-wi. Har har.
+ We've had nothing but beautiful weather so far, but it HAS been a little chillier than I was expecting, hence I have dug out my warm winter pajamas. It's terribly enjoyable.
+ There is a town called "Toad Suck, Arkansas." Holy crap, y'all.
+ The Ozarks are stunningly beautiful. I took lots of pictures, none of which will load right now. Naturally.
+ Branson, Missouri is stalking us. WHAT THE HELL.
+ Just when I'm feeling awesome, my dad calls me from Argentina. He tells me he'll be heading round Cape Horn tomorrow. Dangit.

Okay, we're gonna go eat dinner now because we have to get up early and it's already quite dark. Take care! (theory_of_chaos, can you text me tonight? I think I lost your number when I got my new phone. Either that or I'm just retarded. ♥ )

Hello boys and girls! I'm in Jackson, Georgia, about 45 minutes outside of Atlanta, at the lovely tempest_gypsy's house. I made it through pea-soup fog that threatened to eat my car, survived my battery randomly committing suicide at a rest stop (bless you AAA), and was greeted at the door by a coyote and two dogs literally the size of Shetland ponies. It was quite interesting. Anyway, tempest_gypsy's wireless doesn't like my computer much, and at the moment I'm jacked into a wall outlet to check a few things, but I have to get to bed here in a minute. Just wanted to touch base.

Tempest and I will be driving west starting tomorrow, arriving in Vegas on the 17th. Very exciting! We'll keep in touch as much as we can.

PEE ESS: stumphed, I looked around, but I couldn't find a clip of Matt on LA Ink ANYWHERE, much to my distress. *woe* Thank you again for the heads-up!!

Hello boys and girls! Checking in safe and sound from Asheville, North Carolina. Tomorrow I leave for Jackson, Georgia to pick up my partner in crime, tempest_gypsy, before we tear ass towards Las Vegas. I won't have any internet for about the next week, because we'll be camping (here's hoping I don't come back with hair-raising stories featuring scorpions and large spiders), so I thought I'd do a photo dump and a quick update.

I spent the past 3 and 1/2 days with isilrandir and duffnstuff and we've had a FANTASTIC time doing a fat lot of nothing. I've watched a little "Heroes" and a lot of other whatever random crap was on TV and we farted around like lazy bums. It was great.

Ohio
leeloo9 just left for work a little while ago, so I thought I'd take advantage of the wireless real quick before I head off on the road again. Just a few pictures because I'm starving and I have a long drive ahead of me today.

This feels anti-climactic for some reason, but fuck it. I leave today for Columbus, Ohio and will arrive dirty, disheveled, and broke in San Francisco in roughly 3 and 1/2 weeks. Something like that. I'll update when I can but I expect to be internet-less quite a bit, so I will try to at least voicepost.

Thank you to everyone who's helped me get ready for this; I would not have been able to do it by myself, that's for damn sure. I love you very much. ♥

So the thing that really hit me today is that I have this relatively small car in which I have to take everything that's absolutely necessary to living with me to California. And it'd be one thing if I was going there directly, but....I'm not. I'm visiting with friends along the way, and I don't want to ruin my mileage or my car by loading it down with heaps of crap. And honestly, I don't want to take that much stuff with me, but when it comes down to it I am going to have a hell of a time abandoning what will probably be 90% of my personal belongings, even though I know that once I've DONE it, I'll be fine.

My mother has already told me that she'll bring some of my stuff with her when she moves to Cali (like my brand-new dresser drawers that she bought for me) but I still have plenty of paring down to do.

My family has a weird relationship with material possessions. One the one hand, there's my dad, who has boxes and boxes and boxes of books and other crap that we dragged from house to house to house while he was in the Air Force. (This is probably at least partially why my mother has such a hate-on for unnecessary belongings. 16 moves in 20 years will do that to a person.) On the other hand, there's my paternal grandmother, the crazy sail-boatin' one, who (obviously) had an absolutely minimum of personal possessions and has probably gotten more enjoyment out of her life than plenty of people I know despite that fact.

For my own part, I...suck at owning things. I'm messy and disorganized and honestly I don't USE more than half the stuff I own. I rarely watch movies unless I'm with friends (something I am working on! I've been watching one movie a week for almost a month now, go me!) and while there was a point when I re-read books relentlessly, that hasn't been the case for years and years now, mainly because my list of books I have yet to read has gotten so astronomically long. Not to mention the hordes of stupid stuff (gifts from ex-boyfriends, board games, old photos, relics from marching band and classes in high school) that has just hidden itself away mysteriously in my closet and under my bed. And yet, I have so. Much. Crap. And I am WRETCHED at parting with it.

This is driving me nuts.Collapse )

Updating twice in one day OMG SOUND THE ALARMs. No, this is just an FYI. I'll be gone for the next 3 days in Chicago, and I'm not taking my computer, so the only way I will be reachable is by phone. If you MUST get ahold of me, bug revid, jou or tasyfa because they all have my phone number.

Actually, I think like HALF of you already have it. I'M NOT THAT HARD TO GET AHOLD OF. Really.

Will respond to the 823457298347 comments on my last post (jesus, people!) when I get back. Right now I have to go to BED coz I hit the road in...uh...less than 8 hours. ROCK.

EDIT: I feel the need to point out to everyone that I is NOT leaving LJ. I'm WAY too fucking lazy. The only reason I did that last poll is 'cause I was curious what my flist was doing, in case I needed to start tracking people down who abandoned me on other journaling services. I love you kids. Mrah.

Seriously, folks, hook me up. I'm a lazy bitch who can't be arsed to make her own damn icons after almost 5 years on Livejournal. You know you love me! *ducks all the tomatoes*

Oh, LJ. I am truly sorry for being such a fickle, absent biatch lately. I love you kids! ...but you can't compete with the fact that it has been fucking BEE-YOO-tiful lately, which means I've been out as much as humanly possible. Seriously, my day lately has been: go out running, go to work/shopping/working on the house/go out again in the evening AND ALSO GO OUT SOME MORE. I'm gonna lose like 10 pounds from all the walking and running and hiking I'm doing, I'M SO HAPPYYYYYYY.

...less happy is all the gas money I'm probably wasting by my joy-rides around town. Er. Whoops. Seriously, though, I know the good weather has been seducing others aside from me; jou certainly does, anyway. We DO enable each other. It's terrible.

More so, I know I bitch about Ohio sometimes, but I will GUT YOU WITH THIS HERE CHOPSTICK if I hear someone try to tell me that it's not awfully beautiful when it wants to be. Shut up, yes, the highways are ugly, that's how this works. But you've never seen Oakwood or Sugarcreek or Hocking Hills or Athens, either, if you think it's all ugly as sin, so go away. Also, there is NOTHING that beats driving around in warm weather and sunshine past cute little farmhouses and corn fields with your windows down, blasting something like the Ramones or Eagles of Death Metal or (one of my personal favorites) the Lilo and Stitch soundtrack. (It's all Elvis and cute kids singing Hawaiian songs! ...I am such a sap.) That's something I'll really miss out West. I know Cali is super-congested, which means I'm probably screwed EVEN BEYOND the super-expensive gas. Oh, well. You'll all get to witness me having a crazy driving boner during my road trip in a few months, so that's okay.

I am also cutting this to save your friendspage! Work, moving, and OH MY GOD, GREEN DAY.Collapse )

A few last important things: theory_of_chaos, you haven't received your CDs yet because I am a horrible shitty slow person who keeps failing to go to the post office. They're all done, written out and everything, and... not mailed because I suck. *dies forever* I'M SO SORRY!! But I love your mix, I've had it in my car as I'm driving around and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I promise I'll get that out to you tomorrow!!

revid, I FINALLY got the first issue of "Paste" and I LUB IT. Thank you again! My mother thoughtfully didn't throw it out with all the other crap when it came in the mail. *dies*

leighrowena and _somniac_, do not think that I will not come after you with knives and forks if you try to wimp out on posting all about your Vegas trips. SO AWESOME! My flist rules (even when I suck at keeping up with it, FAIL). Ha, they probably won't even see this, since they're still off painting the town. *kisses to them in absentia*

And now I really must go. Have a lovely evening, boys and girls! ♥
