What else has been going on? Well, I bought an iPhone 4. (SIGH) I justified it as being very useful for my trip, and it will be, but holy fuck iphone I am so gay for you. Also, Angry Birds is like crack, you guys. It's this stupid downloadable game and I CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT, AUGH.
I'm dating a guy who is six foot ten (THAT'S OVER TWO METERS TALL FOR THOSE OF YOU OUTSIDE THE STATES) and fucking covered in tattoos. It's amazing to walk around with him because I can wear my three inch heels, which makes me a monster at 6'4", and he'll still tower six inches over me. It's insane and he's wonderful. (It also does not hurt that the sex is the best I've ever had in my life, ahem, sorry for the minor TMI there.) And before you ask, "what about your trip?" he knows about it and it's fine. It's a very cavalier sort of thing, which is nice.
I already quit one job (huzzah!) leaving only leftover paperwork and filing to do there. I put in the 2-week's notice for the other one, and my last official day of work for anyone is December 20th. After that I am a FREE BITCH with no employers, no rent due, and nowhere to be except sitting around being fat and lazy with my friends and family over the holidays. HELL. YES. I so cannot wait. Too bad there's still a crap ton left to do. Pardon me while I make small wounded animal noises.
BUT THAT BRINGS ME TO MY REQUEST. Lovely friendslist! I have FIVE WHOLE WEEKS of lazing around to do, and I would like to use it to check out some fun stuff. Additionally I will totally shove my ereader and mp3 player full of books and music before I go on my trip, and thus, this is what I want from you.
GIVE ME YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS. They can be for anything at all—an author, a specific book, a book series, movies, TV series, a band, a song, a director, even a video game. I want to hear it!! Even if it's just one thing you totally love and are into right now, HIT ME UP.
I'm putting my loves/dislikes and what I'm currently into behind the cut, in case you're interested, but you can totally shout at me at random too. Whee!
Books. I absolutely adore Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, and their ilk. In general I love sci-fi and fantasy, though I lean towards grittier fantasy stuff than straight-up swords-and-sorcery. Shit I'm into right now: I am just finishing up with Diane Duane's "Young Wizards" series, and I am totally going to read Ursula K. LeGuin's "Left Hand of Darkness" over break; I am also totally going to read a shitton of Sherlock Holmes stories, and the rest of the Kate Martinelli mysteries by Laurie R. King.
So: strong female protagonists and character-driven plots are a win; romance is OK as long as it doesn't become the main focus of the story; and mysteries are actually apparently totally up my alley as well. My one must-have is HAPPY ENDINGS PLEASE. There's enough tragedy and sadness in the world, I don't need it in my fiction, please. Obviously a realistic happy ending is okay, but "rocks fall, all die" is not.
Also please rec me fun non-fiction books you have read lately. A HUNGER FOR READING, I HAS IT.
Movies. Man, I haven't seen any of the fun movies of the past 3 months. Last movie I saw in theatres was Scott Pilgrim. I'm pretty simple with my tastes and will try most anything, but tend to prefer fun or fantastical movies over really grim, angsty stuff if I'm left to my own devices. Tell me the last movie that made an impression on you! I already plan to see "Red," "Unstoppable," the 7th HP flick, and "Tron Legacy" over break, but tell me something else.
TV. Oh man, I am the worst with TV. I'm still (slowly) making my way through the X-files and loving the hell out of it, but I dig more the Monster-of-the-week stuff than the Mytharc crap. Shut up, Cigarette-smoking Man. I'm also still planning to watch more Star Trek in general (have not yet watched all of TOS), and have been eyeballing the following shows: Psych, Castle, Lost, Hawaii Five-O (hi there,and_ed and leupagus), and the rest of Dexter past halfway through Season 2. I enjoyed House through the end of Season 3. I'm also contemplating Battlestar Galactica and Dr. Who. AND OH SHIT I NEED TO SEE THE BBC SHERLOCK. FUCKITY!
Characters I have loved: Dr. House, Dana Scully (shut up Mulder YOU DON'T APPRECIATE HER ENOUGH), Buffy Summers, Dexter Morgan. Uh. So. Apparently, emotional cripples and witty dialogue are my thing. HIT IT.
Music. Music I am way more opinionated about, but also very open to things. My perennial favorites are stuff like Green Day, Alkaline Trio, and Lady Gaga, but lately I've been really into Fleet Foxes, Andrew Bird, Frightened Rabbit, Cee-Lo Green, Peter Bjorn + John, the Black Keys, Florence & the Machine, and Mumford & Sons. So, more indie-rock, really melodic stuff with great harmonies and lyrics. I'm also a sucker for catchy, trashy pop though (see: Ke$ha, Maroon 5, and everything Beyonce has ever done). I also dig older rock n roll, so HOLLA AT ME.
