This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of bioethanol from sawdust, an abundant lignocellulosic by-product, using microbial fermentation. Sawdust was pretreated with 0.5 M suphlfuric acid (H2S04) and subjected to microbial fermentation using Saccharomyces cerevisiae. After a week of fermentation at 30°C, the resulting bioethanol was extracted through distillation at 102°C. A 42% yield of bioethanol was obtained. Physicochemical characterization revealed a specific gravity of 0.82g/cm3, density of 1.05 g/mg, refractive index of 1.3441, cloud point of -15°C, acid value 39.3 mg KOH/g and Iodine value 2.5g 2.5/100g. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed the presence of a prominent O-H stretching vibration at 3336.91 cm⁻¹ indicating hydroxyl groups characteristic of alcohols and 1635.46 cm⁻¹ to the C=O (carbonyl) stretching vibration. This study underscores the potential of sawdust as a sustainable feedstock for bioethanol production, offering a viable waste management solution and contributing to energy security. The results highlight the feasibility of integrating microbial fermentation with physicochemical processing to produce high-quality bioethanol while mitigating environmental challenges associated with sawdust disposal.

Auditing serves as a critical tool for promoting transparency, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and curbing resource mismanagement. However, local governments often face challenges such as inadequate audit funding, lack of skilled personnel, and political interference, which hinder effective financial oversight. This research explores how auditing practices influence financial accountability, revenue tracking, and project implementation in Egbedore Local Government. The findings aim to provide actionable recommendations for improving audit systems to enhance governance and efficient resource utilization in local councils.
