
"Shut Up Meg" is the catch-phrase of Meg Griffin, wherein various characters, (mostly Peter), tell her to shut up after she says something they don't like. There is rarely any consistency to the reasons why they tell her this, as they'll shut her up no matter what she says.

Mind Over Murder[]
- An early example before it became the catchphrase. As Peter's remodeling the basement into a bar, he notices Meg, who he previously chained up in the cellar. So he ties a handkerchief on her mouth to avoid her from talking. As Meg tries to ask his father if she can be released, Peter tells her to shut up
Deep Throats[]
- Everybody makes fun of Brian for being political and calls him "The New Meg". However, when Meg joins in on the mockery and teases Brian too, Peter famously and hilariously delivers to her the iconic catchphrase, "Shut up, Meg."
A Star is Born... Kind Of[]
- The Griffin Family watches Superbad and they all laugh, having a good time. After they all praise how great the movie is, Meg comments that she didn't like it, which kills everybody's buzz. Peter tells her to shut up out of annoyance.
Full Metal Jackass[]
- Peter scolds Chris for being a coward, not wanting to join the military. Meg asks, in a way that wasn't meant to attack or contradict Peter, how brave he was, when he joined the military. Not having ever gone to the military for the same reasons as Chris, unbeknownst to Meg, Peter shuts her up, not wanting to have to expose himself as a hypocrite in front of her.
Prick Up Your Ears[]
- Peter calls on Meg in sex-ed class but when Meg starts to ask her question, Peter shuts her up.
The Father, The Son, and The Holy Fonz[]
- Peter and Francis tell Brian his religion based on The Fonz wasn't real religion, but Meg tries to correct the two, by saying in the loose sense of terms that is religion. Only for Peter and Francis to both yell at her to shut up.
Not All Dogs Go to Heaven[]
- When Meg gets all religious on the family, Peter rightfully tells her "Shut up, Meg." Though Francis, who was bonding with Meg over her newfound Christian ways, hits Peter in the back of the head with a bible book and tells Peter to shut up himself.
Back to the Woods[]
- Peter goes in disguise as a kid named Scooter. Meg asks "Scooter" why she's never seen him around and Peter breaks character to tell her "Shut up, Meg." in true Peter fashion.
The Man With Two Brians[]
- The Griffins admire New Brian for being so adorable. Meg wonders what he's dreaming about and Peter sweetly tells her "Shut up, Meg." in a soft and adoring voice.

It's a Trap![]
- In the Star Wars universe, Meg is a giant ugly Jabba monster, who complains about how she never gets any dialogue in these parodies. Peter just flies back over to her and tells her to shut up.

- In the British version of the show, Chap of the Manor, British Meg says that she looks upon everybody with favor and Neville tells her, "Shut up, British Meg."

- Chris overhears Peter and Lois talking about how stupid he is and he gets offended. Peter and Lois try to cover it up by saying they were actually talking about Meg and they just used the name "Chris" so she doesn't find out. Meg overhears them from her room and cusses at them from down the hall. Peter yells back at her, "Shut up, Chris!"
Bigfat[]
- Peter goes full-on caveman and pretty much loses his memory of what it was like to be a human being. The Griffins give up all hope and send him back into the woods. As Meg gives her goodbye speech, this causes Peter to, on instinct, try to say something back. Lois encourages Meg to keep talking until Peter finally tells her, "Shut up, Meg.", reverting back to his human self.
The Simpsons Guy[]
- Lisa helps Meg to discover her true potential and tells her to recognize she matters by shouting out that she matters. Meg yells out "I matter!" and then Peter yells at her from downstairs, "Shut up, Meg. You don't matter."
- Near the end of the episode, Meg self-deprecates and rambles about how much she loathes herself but Lisa politely tells her, "Hey, ... Shut up, Meg." as a kind way of telling her to stop speaking so negatively about herself.

- Peter saying "Shut up, Meg." was part of the EDM rap music he made.
Cash Meg Ousside[]
- A montage shows everybody in the family telling Meg to shut up. First it's Peter, then it's Lois, then it's Chris, then it's Stewie, then it's Brian, then it's her own reflection in the mirror. Meg asks her reflection why she's so mean to her and her reflection said that it's because she made her this way, suggesting that her reflection blames her ugliness on her host.

- Parker Stanton holograms himself into The Griffin House and when Meg asks him a question, he tells her to shut up and then tells The Griffins that he did his research on their family.

- Meg calls out Peter for rehashing the same joke from before and Peter tells her to shut up and that because he's a TV dad, he's allowed to reuse the same joke multiple times.

- Meg gets into an argument with Lacey Chabert (the original voice actor of Meg in Season 1) over which one of them is the "true Meg". Is it the original, or the current Meg, voiced by Mila Kunis from Season 2-onwards. They both tell each other "Shut up, Meg!" a bunch of times in a fight before Peter shuts them both up by saying, "Shut up, Megs!"

- Lois tells Meg to shut up even though she didn't even talk and calls her voice clutter before breaking her glasses and kicking her out of the house.

Commercials[]
- While holding Peter up for "The Family Guy 100th Episode Special" commercial, the family complain about Peter being extremely heavy as he made them hold him for the commercial. Meg adds on to one of their gripes by saying its not truly fair to any of them why he's making them do this. To which Peter kicks Meg in the face with his right foot and tells her to shut up.
