Brent is the Laboratory’s Director of Facilities, joining in January 2019 to oversee infrastructure stewardship. He brings over three decades of infrastructure management expertise from complex facilities, including the Nuclear Waste Partnership (WIPP), Lawrence Livermore National Lab, and the Pantex Plant. He previously served in the US Navy nuclear submarine force.

Dean is an accomplished leader who brings extensive experience from private consulting and his pivotal five-year tenure as LBNL’s Engineering Department Head, where he significantly strengthened the department’s capabilities across five critical infrastructure program areas. A registered Professional Engineer with a Master’s degree and a Certificate of Business Excellence from UC Berkeley, Dean is committed to strategic vision and operational improvement in alignment with the Lab’s mission. As the Deputy Division Director, he will provide strategic leadership to shape the Facilities Division’s long-term roadmap, oversee the project portfolio, and ensure the successful delivery of future infrastructure.

Daniel Flaherty provides industrial electrical expertise developed through experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, federal hydropower, mass transit, and consulting. He holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Engineering Systems, specializing in electrical engineering. Daniel’s areas of focus include protective relaying, electrical maintenance, and electrical system studies.

Heather provides leadership for the site services provided by Facilities to the Lab, including Custodial Services, Transportation, Shipping, Receiving, Mail Services, Fleet Management Services, Food Services, Vending Machines, Waste Hauling and the Guest House. She took on this role in 2023 but joined the Lab as a contractor in 1994 (and permanently in 1995). Heather has worked in most areas of operations at the Lab (HR, OCFO, EH&S, IT, and Facilities) and two years on the UC Berkeley campus doing process improvement. Heather has a Bachelor of Science in Business – Organizational Innovation from the University of Phoenix and is a Project Management Professional (PMP).

Ryan provides leadership for teams of mechanics, electricians, building controls technicians, riggers, painters, FM Management, Tech Management, Structure Services Management and laborers who serve the Laboratory’s infrastructure needs on a 24/7 schedule. Ryan joined LBNL in 2003 as an electrician and has held positions in work planning and control and electrical management prior to assuming his current role as Department Head of Site Utilities and Maintenance Department.  Prior to coming to LBNL, Ryan was an electrician for the IBEW Local 595. Ryan has a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Cal State University.

John Elliott is Chief Sustainability Officer, responsible for directing and implementing the Lab’s sustainability strategy. He has broad and detailed experience in sustainable new construction, building energy management, building electrification, living laboratory collaborations, renewables, water efficiency, electric vehicles, and waste diversion. He was previously Director, Energy and Sustainability at UC Merced. John holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Stanford, and an M.A. degree in Energy Resources from UC Berkeley.
