Privacy Policy — BC Exclusion Tracker

A Project of the Family Support Institute of BC (FSI)

The Family Support Institute of BC (FSI) respects and upholds your right to privacy and the protection of personal information. The BC Exclusion Tracker is committed to safeguarding the personal data of families and individuals who choose to share their experiences through our platform. We operate in accordance with the BC Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and follow best practices for data collection, storage, and use.

What This Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you fill out the BC Exclusion Tracker forms. By submitting your information through the Tracker, you are consenting to the practices described here.

Accountability and Contact

FSI is accountable for the personal information collected through this site. The Executive Director of FSI is designated as the Privacy Officer and can be contacted at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

Collection of Information

Personal information is collected only with your consent, and you will always be informed of the purpose of the data collection. The Exclusion Tracker collects your email address to confirm survey entries and avoid duplication. It also allows us to contact you if follow-up is required. This contact information is not linked to the data used in reports, unless you specifically opt in.

You are also invited to offer your child or youth the opportunity to provide brief feedback as part of the survey. These responses are completely optional.

Use of Information

The information collected is used solely for research, advocacy, and reporting purposes — to better understand and address the exclusion of students with disabilities and/or complex learning needs from the BC education system. Aggregated and anonymized data may be shared with school boards, the Ministry of Education, or media to support systemic change.

Your responses may be quoted anonymously in reports or presentations. No identifying information will ever be shared without your explicit permission.

Data Access and Security

Your information is securely stored and only accessible to authorized personnel involved in the project. We do not share personal data with third parties unless required by law. If requested by legal authorities or through a court order, access may be granted as required.

Despite our best efforts and security measures, any information submitted online carries a risk of unauthorized access or data compromise.

Your Rights

You have the right to request access to your personal data or to correct any errors. Please contact the Privacy Officer if you wish to review or amend the information associated with your submission.

You may also withdraw your consent at any time, or request to have your data removed from our system by emailing [email protected].

By submitting a response to the BC Exclusion Tracker, you acknowledge and consent to the collection and use of your personal information as outlined in this policy.

If you do not agree with the terms, we ask that you do not proceed with the survey.
