Dear staff at my current apartment building,

While I appreciate that it is very important to test your fire alarms and make certain that they are working...you have been doing this for SIX AND A HALF HOURS. Admittedly, not constantly but every other minute, shrill and loud beeping will ring through the building. At this point it is safe to say that yes, in fact, the alarms are working.

What's this? You say you have two more DAYS of this shit planned? I suppose I should thank you for the much needed boot in the ass to get out of my apartment bright and early to start job hunting, but somehow, I can't quite appreciate the fact that it's going to be loud and annoying in the apartment from 9am-5pm for two more days.

Seriously, the alarms are working fine. You tested them last month and you've been testing them today since 9am. It is now 3:30pm. I'm pretty sure that every single person who is home today and isn't completely deaf will be able to tell you that yes, the alarms are working, loud and clear.

Thank you for reminding me that while moving back to my parents' place for a while isn't what I had wanted to do originally, there are benefits that go beyond me not having to pay rent.

Sincerely,

Your disgruntled tenant
Heat! Finally! :D Yay!

It just came on a little while ago so it's not warm, but it's no longer chilly in here. Better late than never.

Work tomorrow...bleh. Going to go to bed nice and early so I'll be well rested. But first, the shower I've been waiting to have all day. My hair will dry quickly enough that I'm not worried about going to bed with wet hair.
They haven't turned the heat on in my apartment building just yet. As a result, it is cold in the mornings right now.

I'm glad that it's not supposed to rain today. Particularly in the morning. I don't mind walking home in the rain so much, but I hate walking to work in the rain. Wet clothes are a terrible thing to be stuck in for hours. Not to mention, it's bad for your health.

I suspect my current exhaustion is my body trying to fight the cold that's been going around the office. I'm going to have to make sure I keep warm and eat well over the next couple of days, and tonight I plan on going to bed early. I've said it a couple of times and not followed through, and tonight I really want to go to bed early, if only so I'll be functional by the time the wedding rehearsal rolls around tomorrow evening.

Bluenotes has a clothing sale going on. I got five pairs of underwear and a new hoodie for 27 bucks (taxes included). This may be the location at Yorkdale only but yeah. Anyone in the Toronto region looking for some affordable new casual clothes should head over there soon.

On another note, if there's one thing I am really, really looking forward to about eventually not living in an apartment building anymore, it's that I won't have to deal with a kajillion fire alarms and "emergency shut downs" of the water lines.

At least there were warnings put up yesterday saying that they were going to do maintenance, and I prepared this time. It's also only one of the water lines...but of course it's the one that's connected to my bathroom. I was able to use my kitchen sink for brushing my teeth at least.

*headdesk*

...I HATE when the apartment complex needs emergency plumbing and I only find out about it after the water isn't working properly. X__X

They're working on it right now, but until then, my toilet won't flush. The water that runs from the faucets is cold only and is a weak little trickle. It was enough for me to brush my teeth but not enough for a shower.

ARGH.
Dear apartment complex superintendent,

Okay. I will give you credit for showing up to fix the yucky problem very quickly. Showing up in under ten minutes is GOOD.

...but why you were SO determined to convince me that it was water, not urine, coming through my ceiling vent/fan in the bathroom is beyond me. It looked like urine. It smelled like urine. It was coming through the ceiling fan because somebody's toilet overflowed in the apartment RIGHT ABOVE MINE.

Trying to tell me "It's that way because it came through the cieling" is ... a bit of fail on your part. I think I'd notice if my ceiling constantly smelled like urine, kthx.

At least you cleaned up the ceiling fan. I can clean the rest of the washroom. The fan/vent, though? That's building maintenance's responsibility.

Grossed out but happy you came to fix it quickly,

Me
Problem has been fixed.

The toilet was backed up. Okay, normally easily fixable by plunging. Alas, no. Plunging made everything come up into the BATHTUB. X__X They made me wait a long time for emergency maintenance - I requested it late morning and the plumber didn't show up until almost 7pm. I realize he was busy with other jobs, but man, it sucked having to use the rental office bathroom. I ate as little as possible so I wouldn't need to make any hasty trips to the washroom.

Of course, the worst part was the apartment complex telling me that they weren't SURE if someone could come and service my bathroom today at ALL.

It only took him about 15-20 minutes to fix everything, and I have since scrubbed my bathtub thoroughly with copious amounts of Comet. I mopped the floor and wiped it down, but it's still not completely to my satisfaction. It's just not disgusting anymore.

To make this all EXTRA special, I had JUST cleaned my bathroom yesterday.

Woo. Okay, so the power is off in my building. They turned it off around 9-ish in the morning and said it would be off for 4-6 hours. Fuuuuuuuuuun.

I'm currently in the university library, because there's really not a whole lot you can do when the power is off at home. Reading would be an option if it wasn't dark and overcast.

At least I thought to bring my tablet with me. I can work on some art, at least.

I want hot water back in my apartment, dammit. X_X I'm rather annoyed that the building management decided that they needed to shut the hot water down from 9-5 on Tuesday, Wednesday AND Thursday. Yes, they are doing maintenance. But argh. It just had to happen on the days where I'm not working from 9-5. Very annoying timing, I must say.

Oh well. That's what evening showers are for.

I have two tests tomorrow. Piano and English. I'm not too worried about either of them, but I'm going into the school today with my textbook and my piano book. I'm going to sign out one of the piano rooms to practice, and study in the library, too. I get more work done when I don't have distractions (like the computer and my TV) to tempt me.

ICKY YUCKY NASTY EW EW EW

UGH. I thought the roach problem was gone from the apartment. I hadn't seen a single roach for about two months or so after we got pest control in.

The first roach I see since then? It dropped from the ceiling fan vent into my HAIR. I screamed a scream worthy of a horror movie, and my arms flailed spastically as I tried to get it off of my head. It was BIG. Not like...fist-sized, but pretty big for a roach in Canada.

*SHUDDER*

Then there was the matter of where the hell it went after I got it off my head. I was concerned it landed in my pants, so I whipped those off, left my underwear on, and made a dash for my bedroom to change into another pair of pants. I got a pair of dish gloves and put those on before sorting through my pants. Bug-free, and didn't find it in the bathroom anywhere, so I'm assuming it got flushed down the toilet.

Suffice to say, I'm still highly grossed out by this. X_X

Oh man I would love that too, lol! We could easily live on that. Just live pretty frugally and stretch it out. Never have to work again!

XD I'd love to win a million dollars, or failing that, have an easy part time job fall right into my lap, but looking at things realistically, they're going fairly well lately.
