The editions of ancient authors, as well as grammars and lexica of ancient languages from the 16th-17th century Swedish Kingdom (with her oversea provinces) fall generally under the category of school humanism. With an exception of Johann Scheffer, who represents in Sweden the German humanist tradition (and whose editions are mostly printed in Germany) we see cheap text or bilingual editions with no or rudimentary commentary, in case of grammars or lexica, tendency to abridgments. Correspondingly, the amount of paratexts (mostly in Latin) in these books is small, including brief addresses to the readers, occasional dedications and gratulatory poems. However, even these brief paratexts include quotations from ancient and contemporary authors.<\/p>\n

In this paper I\u2019ll focus on some typical quotations inn Greek, found in the school editions by Johannes Gezelius the Elder (1615-1690), whose activity as a bishop, Bible translator,  professor, school reformer and author of various manuals has left a great impact in the development of culture and education in Early Modern Swedish kingdom. I am going to discern possible sources of these quotations, to look into their functions and bring out some general features, reflected in this case study.  <\/p>\n

Les \u00e9ditions d’auteurs anciens, ainsi que les grammaires et lexiques des langues anciennes publi\u00e9s dans le royaume su\u00e9dois aux XVIe<\/sup> et XVIIe<\/sup> si\u00e8cles (avec ses provinces d’outre-mer) rel\u00e8vent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement de la cat\u00e9gorie de l’humanisme scolaire. A l’exception de Johann Scheffer, qui repr\u00e9sente en Su\u00e8de la tradition humaniste allemande (et dont les \u00e9ditions sont pour la plupart imprim\u00e9es en Allemagne), on voit des textes bon march\u00e9 ou des \u00e9ditions bilingues sans commentaire ou avec un commentaire rudimentaire, et, dans le cas de grammaire ou de lexique, on constate une tendance nette aux abr\u00e9g\u00e9s. En cons\u00e9quence, la quantit\u00e9 de paratextes (principalement en latin) dans ces livres est faible, et concerne de br\u00e8ves adresses aux lecteurs, des d\u00e9dicaces occasionnelles et des po\u00e8mes de f\u00e9licitations. Cependant, m\u00eame ces brefs paratextes contiennent des citations d’auteurs anciens et contemporains.
Dans cet article, je me concentrerai sur quelques citations typiques du grec, trouv\u00e9es dans les \u00e9ditions scolaires de Johannes Gezelius l’Ancien (1615-1690), dont l’activit\u00e9 en tant qu’\u00e9v\u00eaque, traducteur de la Bible, professeur, r\u00e9formateur scolaire et auteur de divers manuels a eu une grande influence sur le d\u00e9veloppement de la culture et de l’\u00e9ducation dans le royaume su\u00e9dois du d\u00e9but de l’\u00e9poque moderne. Je vais discerner les sources possibles de ces citations, examiner leurs fonctions et d\u00e9gager quelques caract\u00e9ristiques g\u00e9n\u00e9rales, refl\u00e9t\u00e9es dans cette \u00e9tude de cas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citas en las ediciones de los humanistas de la regi\u00f3n del Mar b\u00e1ltico: estudio del caso de Johannes Gezelius el Viejo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Las ediciones de autores antiguos, as\u00ed como las gram\u00e1ticas y l\u00e9xicos de las lenguas antiguas publicados en el reino sueco en los siglos XVI y XVII (con sus provincias de Ultramar) suelen vincularse con el humanismo escolar. Excepto Johann Scheffer, que representa en Suecia la tradici\u00f3n humanista alemana (y cuyas ediciones, en su mayor parte, se imprimieron en Alemania), se encuentran textos baratos o ediciones biling\u00fces sin comentario o con un comentario rudimentario, y, en el caso de gram\u00e1ticas o de l\u00e9xicos, se comprueba una clara tendencia a los compendios. Por lo tanto, la cantidad de paratextos (principalmente en lat\u00edn) en esos libros es d\u00e9bil, y concierne breves dedicatorias a los lectores, dedicatorias ocasionales y poemas encomi\u00e1sticos. No obstante, incluso esos breves paratextos contienen citas de autores antiguos y coet\u00e1neos.
En este art\u00edculo, me centrar\u00e9 en algunas citas t\u00edpicas del griego, encontradas en ediciones escolares de Johannes Gezelius el Viejo (1615-1690), cuya actividad como obispo, traductor de la Biblia, profesor, reformador escolar y autor de distintos manuales tuvo una gran influencia en el desarrollo de la cultura y de la educaci\u00f3n en el reino sueco de principios de la \u00e9poca moderna. Identificar\u00e9 las posibles fuentes de esas citas, examinar\u00e9 su funci\u00f3n y destacar\u00e9 algunas caracter\u00edsticas generales, reflejadas en el estudio de este caso.<\/p>\n
