Printed publications have been divided into two groups and three subgroups, namely works about the history of Berezhany and the Seniavski castle, as well as publications about local pottery. In particular, the author of the given paper has analyzed information from numerous scholarly sources, i.e. monographs, dissertation abstracts, theses, articles, conference proceedings, exhibition catalogues, albums and scholarly and artistic books, as well as materials on local history. There has been stated that authors of such researches did not predominantly dive deep into the history of the ceramic centre in Berezhany, or specificity of its work, and the works by the local potters were not explored in the context of tendencies in Ukrainian folk ceramics. Instead, art critical analysis mainly consisted in singling out a peculiar technique of earthenware décor (fliandrivka), or mentioning certain shapes of earthenware from this ceramic centre. The given research is based on materials from city archives in Berezhany, Ternopil and Lviv, as well as collections in libraries and local history rooms in the schools of the region or other areas of Ukraine, and some museums in Poland (Warsaw, Krakow and Przemyśl). All the above-mentioned sources of the research were discovered during scholar's trips to these places and expeditions. One can also find important information in catalogues of the 19 th -20 th cc. ethnographical exhibitions, scholarly and artistic papers, memoirs of city residents, illustrations of the earthenware and other documents. The author of the article has studied registry books of birth, marriage and death of people living in Berezhany and its suburbs (Adamivka and Rai) as well as documents on property. Therefore, a number of local potters of the 19 th -early 20 th cc. have been mentioned here by the author for the first time.

By the shards and the thickness of the porridge, people forecast the child’s further fate. All the guests were treated to vodka from a beautifully painted jug. The wedding ritual involved small and large pots, cups, bowls, soup plates, plates, jars, O-shaped flat jars with a handle, flasks, earthenware casks, figurines of birds, animals and sometimes humans.

The given article analyzes artistic specificity and functions of
major types of zoomorphic earthenware of the XIXth — early
XXIst cc., lighting devices, crockery, interior elements, musical instruments, and toys from various ceramic centres of
Ukraine. Some items reveal zoomorphic features only in particular details (for example, a plug, a lid, etc), whereas the others fully represent them in their shape (a bird or an animal)
which was often ornamented with painted or relief décor. Some
authors were really meticulous in developing every detail (feathers or fur), while the others produced rather schematic zoomorphic items.
