Elisabeth Shue is an American actress. She is known for her roles in the films The Karate Kid<\/em>, Adventures in Babysitting<\/em>, Cocktail<\/em>, Back to the Future Parts<\/em> parts II and III, The Marrying Man<\/em>, Soapdish<\/em>, Leaving Las Vegas<\/em>, The Saint<\/em>, Deconstructing Harry<\/em>, Palmetto<\/em>, Hollow Man<\/em>, Mysterious Skin<\/em>, Hide and Seek<\/em>, Dreamer<\/em>, Piranha 3D<\/em>, Hope Springs<\/em>, House at the End of the Street<\/em>, Battle of the Sexes<\/em>, and Death Wish<\/em> (2018), and on television’s The Boys<\/em> and On the Verge<\/em>. She has also been credited as Lisa Shue.<\/p>\n

Elisabeth is the daughter of Anne Brewster (Wells) and James William Shue. Her father was a congressional candidate, lawyer, and real estate developer, who was president of the International Food and Beverage Corporation. Her mother was a vice president in the private banking division of the Chemical Banking Corporation. Her brother is actor Andrew Shue.<\/p>\n

Elisabeth was raised in South Orange, New Jersey. She is married to director and producer Davis Guggenheim, with whom she has three children.<\/p>\n

Elisabeth’s paternal grandfather was James Harvey Shue (the son of John B. Shue and Martha Melissa Whitsel). James was born in Mount Union, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. John was the son of Andrew Shue and Rebecca Swartz. Martha was the daughter of Peter Whitsel, who was born in Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg, Germany, and of Rebecca J. Price.<\/p>\n

Elisabeth’s paternal grandmother was Maude Leona Eppley (the daughter of William Bower Eppley and Myrtle Floyd Stetler). Maude was born in Pennsylvania. William was the son of William Eppley and Margaret\/Maggie Elizabeth Bower. Myrtle was the daughter of John Edward Stetler and Leah Amanda Beshore.<\/p>\n

Elisabeth’s maternal grandfather was Adoniram Judson Wells III (the son of Adoniram Judson Wells, Jr. and Anna Minnie Schultz). Elisabeth’s grandfather Adoniram was born in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Elisabeth’s great-grandfather Adoniram was born in Gates, Lauderdale, Tennessee, the son of Adoniram Judson Wells and Sarah Margaret “Maggie” Baucom. Anna was the daughter of German parents, Robert Ferdinand Schultz and Emilia Augusta Tull.<\/p>\n

Elisabeth’s maternal grandmother was Mary Brewster Gunn (the daughter of Alexander Hunter Gunn, Jr. and Harriet Grace Brewster Willcox\/Wilcox). Mary was born in Evanston, Cook, Illinois, and had deep Colonial American roots, particularly in New England. Alexander was the son of Alexander Hunter Gunn and Emily Almira Dyer. Harriet was the daughter of The Rev. Giles Buckingham Willcox\/Wilcox and Mary Jane Cooley, who was born in Tolland, Tolland Co., Connecticut.<\/p>\n

Through Elisabeth’s maternal grandmother, she is a descendant of William Brewster (c. 1566-1644), a Mayflower passenger and noted Pilgrim. Among many of William’s other descendants are actors Jordana Brewster<\/a>, Paget Brewster<\/a>, Austin Butler<\/a>, Chevy Chase<\/a>, Hero Fiennes Tiffin<\/a>, Taylor Lautner<\/a>, and Seth MacFarlane<\/a>, actors and models Noah Mills<\/a> and Brandon Routh<\/a>, director, producer, screenwriter, and cinematographer Zack Snyder<\/a>, singer Buffy Sainte-Marie<\/a>, soccer player Clint Dempsey<\/a>, novelists Margaret Atwood<\/a> and Thomas Pynchon<\/a>, Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld<\/a>, U.S. Vice President Nelson Rockefeller<\/a>, Governor of Arkansas Winthrop Rockefeller<\/a>, and soldier, civil engineer, and politician George B. McClellan<\/a>.<\/p>\n
