Nora was the daughter of Melanchton Contris and Emma Cecilia Corbet.<\/p>\n

Maria’s paternal grandmother was Nora Belle\/Bell Simmons (the daughter of Henry Lemuel Simmons and Cordelia Mitchell). Nora was born in Athens, Georgia, and had deep American roots. Henry was the son of Tempie Irene “Renie” Simmons, and likely of a man surnamed Prince. Cordelia was the daughter of Lafayette Powell Mitchell and Sarah Elizabeth Nix.<\/p>\n

Maria’s maternal grandfather was Rudolf\/Rudolph Carl Lehfeldt (the son of Ludwig Carl “Louie” Lehfeldt and Julia Stafeck\/Staffek). Rudolf was born in Montana. Ludwig was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Rudolf\/Rudolph Carl Henry Lehfeldt and Mary Witt. Julia was born in New York, to parents from Bohemia, with her mother having been named Barbara\/Barbra Benesh.<\/p>\n

Maria’s maternal grandmother was Margaret Sophia Raddatz (the daughter of John Gustav “Gus” Raddatz and Maria Caroline Batzlaff). Margaret was born in Minnesota. John was born in Germany, the son of August Friedrich Raddatz and Albertina Swanke. Maria was born in Wisconsin, to German parents, Friedrich Henry Batzlaff and Henrietta Arndt.<\/p>\n
