Tate McRae is a Canadian singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress. She is known for her songs “One Day,” “You Broke Me First,” “Greedy,” and “Sports Car,” and, in a featured role, “What I Want.” She was a finalist on the U.S. So You Think You Can Dance, and has had voice roles in the Lalaloopsy franchise.
Tate is the daughter of Tanja Rosner and Todd McRae, a lawyer. Pictures of Tate with her parents can be seen here and here. Her mother’s family is German. She spent some of her early years in Oman, where her father worked, and her mother taught dance. Her mother also owned the YYC Dance Project for dance training.
Tate’s paternal grandfather is the son of Donald John McRae and Helen McDonald “Nell” Hogg. Donald was born in Rocanville, Saskatchewan, the son of Alexander “Sandy” McRae, who was of Scottish descent, his paternal grandfather from Dingwall, Ross-shire, and his maternal grandmother from Isle of Mull, Argyll; and of Jean Hilton McQueen, who was of three quarters Scottish, and one quarter English, ancestry, with paternal grandparents from Perthshire and Roxboroughshire, respectively. Tate’s great-grandmother Helen was born in Gibbs, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Scottish emigrants, Daniel Hogg, from Renfrewshire; and Isabella Stewart.
Tate’s paternal grandmother possibly is the daughter of Albert Frank Loreth and Lois M. Paulsen. Albert was born in Raymore, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of John Loreth and Anna Marie Schindelka, who were emigrants from Galicia, Austria, likely of German and Czech descent. Lois was born in Saskatchewan, the daughter of Harry Peter Paulsen, who was German; and of Mary Josephine Mistak, whose family was from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and likely were Czech.
Tate’s maternal grandfather was named Bernhard Rosner.
Tate’s maternal grandmother was named Irmgard Elizabeth Masch. Irmgard was born in Berlin, Germany.

I think her paternal grandmother side were all German-speakers (including Schindelka), except the “Mistak” who I believe were Polish, based on my research.

Her possible paternal grandmother is the daughter of Albert Frank Loreth and Lois M Paulsen. Lois was born in Saskatchewan, the daughter of Harry Peter Paulsen, who was German, and Mary J Mistak, whose family was from Austria.
It seems like a lot of her possible paternal grandmother’s family was of Eastern European ancestry. I cannot pinpoint what country, but it seems like somewhere around the Czech Republic, Hungary, or Poland.

Most likely John Loreth was largely German, Anna Schindelka was mixed-German and Czech, and Mary Mistak was Czech

Tate doesn’t look half German, not at all.
Possibly. I cannot rule out that her maternal grandfather is Jewish, though, because there were Rosners who were Jews living in Saskatchewan but there were also German Rosners there, too.

Her mother was born in Germany so this 23andme link doesn’t matter and most modern Germans with that surname are not Jewish and Tate gets her dark looks from her dad
her “dark looks” are not what makes her look Jewish, her facial features are. Obviously facial phenotypes are highly unreliable, but she looks fairly stereotypically Ashkenazic.
additionally “Rosner” is a relatively rare surname in Germany, born only by ~3000 people, and the 2700th most common surname overall.
Conversely, in Israel, it is the ~700th most common surname, and Israel has the highest density of Rosners in the whole world.
Like, cmon lol. She is most definitely part Jewish.
