Steve McNair was an American professional football player. A quarterback, he played for the Houston/Tennessee Oilers/Titans and the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). He was nicknamed “Air McNair.”

Steve was the son of Lucille and Selma McNair. His brother was gridiron football player and coach Fred McNair. His cousin was professional football player Demario Davis. Steve was married to Mechelle, until his death. He had four children, including two with Mechelle.

Steve’s paternal grandfather was William Scotland McNair (the son of Neil McNair and Sarah Blue). Sarah was born in North Carolina, the daughter of Rolland Elliot Blue and Martha Burns.

Steve’s paternal grandmother was Stella Agnes Avery (the daughter of Sylvester Avery and Sudie Hair). Sylvester was born in North Carolina, the son of Thomas Avery and Roseanne Walker. Sudie was born in North Carolina, the daughter of Cornelia and Giles Hair.
