Sam is known for the songs “Lay Me Down,” “Money on My Mind,” “Stay with Me,” “I’m Not the Only One,” “Like I Can,” “Writing’s on the Wall,” “Too Good at Goodbyes,” “Promises,” “Dancing with a Stranger,” “How Do You Sleep?,” and “Unholy.” Sam has also had a voice role on the show The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy.

Sam is the child of Katherine J. “Kate” Cassidy, a broker, and Frederick W. Smith, and was raised in Great Chishill, Cambridgeshire.

Sam is a third cousin of siblings, singer, songwriter, and actress Lily Allen and actor Alfie Allen.
