Rory is the son of Rosie and Gerry McIlroy. He is married to PGA of America employee, Erica Stoll, with whom he has a daughter.
McIlroy was raised Catholic. He carries a British passport. He has described himself as Irish, Northern Irish, and British. He has stated:
I feel Northern Irish and obviously being from Northern Ireland you have a connection to Ireland and a connection to the UK… If I could and there was a Northern Irish team I’d play for Northern Ireland.
