Oscar Pistorius is a South African sprint runner. His legs were amputated below the knee when he was eleven months old, and he competed in events for single below-knee amputees and for able-bodied athletes. He was nicknamed “Blade Runner,” “the fastest man on no legs,” “Tink Tink,” and “Oz” Pistorius.

Oscar is the son of Sheila Francis and Heinrich Carl Wilhelm “Henke” Pistorius. His mother was born in Kenya. He is mostly of Afrikaner [Dutch, German, some French Huguenot, distant Belgian Flemish and Walloon], English, Scottish, and possibly some Italian, ancestry, from his mother’s ancestor, an Italian immigrant to Kenya. He speaks English. His aunt is forensic/investigative psychologist and author Micki Pistorius.

Oscar was found guilty of the murder of his girlfriend, paralegal and model Reeva Steenkamp. In February 2013, he shot her in his Pretoria home.

Oscar’s paternal grandfather was Hendrik Wilhelm Carl Pistorius (the son of Theodor/Theodore Georg/George Joseph Pistorius and Anna Sofia/Sophia Magdalena Stander). Hendrik was born in Pretoria, Gauteng. Theodor was born in Pretoria, the son of Carl Wilhelm Heinrich/Hendrik Pistorius, whose father was born in Tonndorf, Znin, Posen, Prussia, Germany; and of Anna Maria van Staden. Oscar’s great-grandmother Anna was born in Witvlei, Pretoria, the daughter of Johannes Hendrikus Stander and Johanna Frederika Elizabeth Schoeman.

Oscar’s paternal grandmother was Gertruda/Gertruida Jacoba de Beer (the daughter of Arnoldus Stephanus de Beer and Martha Johanna Maria de Beer). Gertruda was born in Transvaal. Arnoldus was born in Waterberg, Transvaal, the son of Johannes Christoffel de Beer and Emmerentia/Ammerentia Petronella Swanepoel. Oscar’s great-grandmother Martha was born in Doorndraai, Eastern Cape, the daughter of Dewald Lambertus de Beer and Martha Johanna Maria Scheepers.

Oscar’s maternal grandfather was Leonard Arnoldus “Len” Bekker (the son of Petrus Johannes Bekker and Maria Johanna Redders). Leonard was born in Machakos, Kenya. Petrus was born in Middelburg, Transvaal, South Africa, the son of Petrus Johannes Bekker and Hester Maria/Magdalena Schoeman, who was from Beaufort West, Cape Colony.

Oscar’s maternal grandmother was Joyce Winifred Sugar (the daughter of Roberton Thomas Sugar and Annie Brocklesby). Joyce was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England. Roberton was born on Gibraltar, the son of David Sugar, who was from Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland; and of Elizabeth Gomm, who was from Bristol, England. Oscar’s great-grandmother Annie was born in Lincolnshire, the daughter of George William Brocklesby and Betsy Tinkler.

The original Pistorius emigrants to South Africa were Friedrich Heinrich Pistorius (b. 16 March 1789, Tondorf, Sachsen-Weimar, Germany), his elder brother, Maximilian Ernst Ludwig (b. 1781), and the eight children of Friedrich, who arrived at the Cape, South Africa in 1838, onboard the “Cape Packet.” The family moved to Natal in 1842. The brothers were the sons of Wilhelm August Pistorius and Fredericke Maria Voigt. Friedrich Heinrich (1789-c. 1863), a brick-maker, is considered to be the Progenitor/Stamvader of the Pistorius family in South Africa.

Oscar is a seventh cousin, once removed, of model Candice Swanepoel.

    So wild that all these northern European people had the drive to go to literally the other side of the world and live there, they must have had so much vision for what they wanted there, thought that they were doing something good but in reality they ended up creating a disastrous and immoral system of oppression.

      Go figure that there are people of color in SA that regret that “immoral system of oppression”, because the country is currently more messy and corrupted than during apartheid.

        Two wrongs don’t make a right, they need to figure a way to undo all the horrible consequences of apartheid without resorting to violence and chaos, SA is such a beautiful country full of amazing people and culture, they don’t deserve so much violence and corruption. Also There’s no justification for the systemic murdering of white south Africans who obviously aren’t directly responsible for apartheid.
