Nayib Bukele is a Salvadoran politician and businessperson. He has served as President of El Salvador, since 1 June, 2019. He was previously Mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlán, from 1 May, 2012 to 30 April, 2015, and Mayor of San Salvador, from 1 May, 2015 to 30 April, 2018.
Nayib is the son of Olga Ortez de Bukele and Armando Bukele Kattán. He is married to educator and prenatal psychologist Gabriela Rodríguez de Bukele, with whom he has two children.
His father was the son of Christian Palestinian parents, from Jerusalem and Bethlehem, respectively. Nayib’s father later converted to Islam. His mother is Christian. Nayib’s father, an Imam, was the spiritual leader of the Islamic community in El Salvador, a role now held by Nayib’s brother Emerson Bukele.
Nayib’s paternal grandfather was Humberto Bukele Salman (the son of José Constantino Bukele and Catalina Salman Harrach). Catalina was the daughter of Elias Salman and Elena Harrach.
Nayib’s paternal grandmother was Victoria Kattán (the daughter of Issa Kattan and Rahme Kattan). Issa was the son of Saleh Kattan and Maria Da’boub. Rahme was the daughter of Salameh Kattan and Nimeh Kattan.
Nayib’s maternal grandfather was named Miguel Angel Ortez. Miguel was of the Greek Orthodox faith. It is not clear if he was of Greek descent or not.
Nayib’s maternal grandmother was named Cristina Moreno. Cristina was Catholic.

If his maternal grandfather was of Greek Orthodox faith, he was likely of Levantine descent (Lebanese, Coptic or something).
I’m surprised that nobody on this site is tagged as “Indigenous Salvadoran” as most Salvadorans are Mestizo (mixed European and Indigenous) including likely President Bukele

I was going to argue with you but this actually is a really rare last name, it apparently has roots in Ethiopian Amharic. This is not the Aramaic of Jesus’s time, which would have made sense because apparently the surname ‘Bukele’ comes from the salvadoran president’s patrilineal Palestinian lineage. It may possibly have Jewish roots, as I was able to find some latvian and hungarian nationals with this last name, but it’s astoundingly rare

This is probably the first time one of your “comments” makes some sense. Bukele is a Congolese surname as well.
I think that it is possible that this last name was made up for some political reason or the like, because there is just not very much history or ethnolinguistic context regarding ‘Bukele’. On a ancestry website it said that only about nine living people share this last name, which is unfeasible unless it was artificially contrived.
