Moira is the daughter of Anne, a nurse, and Peter Kelly, a trained concert violinist. Her parents are Irish emigrants, with at least partial roots in Dublin. She grew up in Ronkonkoma, New York, and was raised Catholic. Moira is married to businessperson Steve Hewitt, with whom she has two children.
