Michaela Coel is a British actress, screenwriter, director, producer, and singer. She is known for creating, writing, directing episodes of, and starring on, the show I May Destroy You. Her roles also include the films Monsters: Dark Continent, Been So Long, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and The Christophers; the shows Top Boy, Chewing Gum, which she also created and wrote; The Aliens, Black Mirror: USS Callister, and Black Earth Rising; and many works on stage.

Her parents are Ghanaian. She was raised in Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Her cousin is rapper, author, and broadcaster Guvna B (Isaac Charles Bortey Borquaye). Michaela was a religious Pentecostal Christian for a time.
