Melanie’s biological great-grandmother Jessie was born in Roslyn, Otago, the daughter of David King Whyte and Alexandrina “Ina” McAdam Swanson.
Melanie’s maternal grandmother was Ann/Anne Waghorn (the daughter of Frederick William Waghorn and Olive Katie Jerrim). Ann was born in New Zealand. Frederick was the son of Henry Albert Waghorn, who was English, and of Sarah Ann Burns.

Correction. Added further info on her grandfather, but didn’t add any proof. Here are two that refer to her maternal grandfather being an orphan and that his parents are his adoptive parents. Couldn’t find articles referencing his biological mother, but Finding Your Roots they give her name as Jesse Helene Whyte

Correction. Her maternal grandfather was an orphan. The parents listed are his adoptive parents. On Finding Your Roots which she was a guest on they found his biological patents. A woman named Jesse Helene Whyte was his biological mother and she wasn’t married to his father who they were able to determine through DNA was a man name Archibald Allen Sharpe who was already married.
