Matthew Lillard is an American actor, voice actor, director, and producer. His roles include the films Hackers, Scream, She’s All That, SLC Punk!, Summer Catch, Thir13en Ghosts, Without a Paddle, The Descendants, Trouble with the Curve, and Five Nights at Freddy’s, and the series Twin Peaks: The Return and Good Girls. He has also played Shaggy Rogers in two Scooby-Doo live action films, as well as voiced the character in animation and other properties for over a decade.

He was raised mostly in Tustin, California. He is married to Heather Helm, with whom he has three children.

Matthew’s paternal grandfather was William Richard Lillard (the son of Leon Franklin Lillard and Sarah “Sallie” McFarlan). William was born in Luke, Maryland. Leon was the son of William Edward Lillard and Nettie Virginia Whitmire, and had deep roots in the U.S. Sarah was the daughter of David McKenzie McFarlan, who was a Scottish emigrant, from Cambuslang, Lanarkshire; and of Isabelle Schuyler, whose parents were also Scottish.

Matthew’s paternal grandmother was Betty Eloise Heyer (the daughter of Carl Dekater Heyer and Betty Erma Kiersch). Matthew’s grandmother Betty was born in Detroit, Michigan. Carl was the son of German parents, from West Prussia, August Carl Heyer and Wilhelmine Peck. Matthew’s great-grandmother Betty was also the daughter of German parents, Herman Kiersch and Anna Swink.

Matthew’s maternal grandfather was Walter Paul Matthews, Jr. (the son of Walter Paul Matthews and Winifred O’Hara). Matthew’s grandfather Walter was born in England. Matthew’s great-grandfather Walter was the son of William Matthews and Rachel. Winifred was the daughter of Patrick O’Hara, whose parents were Irish, and of Harriet Jones.

Matthew’s maternal grandmother was Sarah Denise Eaton (the daughter of Frank McKinley Eaton and Grace Margrette Barton). Frank was the son of William/Will C. Eaton and Sarah Elizabeth Keesling. Grace was the daughter of William Branson Barton and Emma W. White.
