  1. Manila says:

I was able to find his paternal family’s baptismal and marriage certificates from the National Archives of the Philippines, and there are corrections as follows:

Manuel’s paternal grandfather was Antonio Roxas y Andrés (or Antonio Andrés Roxas in Filipino, the son of Francisco Roxas and Rosalía Andrés). Antonio was born in Masinloc, Zambales, and was of part Spanish descent.

Manuel’s paternal grandmother was Raymunda Luis y Hernández (or Raymunda Hernández Luis in Filipino, the daughter of Mamerto Luis and Teodorica Hernández y de la Concepción, or Teodorica de la Concepción Hernández in Filipino). Raymunda was born in San Miguel, Manila. Mamerto was Tagalog, from Meycauayan, Bulacan, the son of Luis Bautista and Melchora Angelina. Teodorica was of part Spanish descent, from San Miguel, Manila, and was the daughter of Anastacio Hernández and María de la Concepción.

Bonifacia Luis y Hernández or Bonifacia Hernández Luis in Filipino, NOT Raymunda. My apologies.

Eleuterio Acuña y Marino (or Eleuterio Marino Acuña) was the son of Sabás Mariano Acuña y Maté, or Sabás Mariano Maté Acuña in Filipino, and of Eduarda Mariano Chitco y de Santa Rosa, or Eduarda de Santa Rosa Mariano Chitco in Filipino, whose original paternal family name is Dimchoco). Eleuterio was born in Binondo, Manila. Mariano was the son of Joaquín de Acuña y de la Rosa (or Joaquín de la Rosa de Acuña in Filipino), who was of part Spanish descent, and of María Candelaria Maté y García (or María Candelaria García Maté in Filipino). Eduarda was of part Chinese descent, and was the daughter of Gregorio Mariano Chitco and Tranquilina de Santa Rosa.
