Lorenz Hart was an American lyricist and songwriter. He was part of a songwriting partnership with Richard Rodgers, known as Rodgers and Hart. His songs include “Manhattan,” “Blue Moon,” “My Funny Valentine,” “The Lady Is a Tramp,” and “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.” His musicals with Rodgers included A Connecticut Yankee, On Your Toes, Babes in Arms, and Pal Joey. He was played by Ethan Hawke in the film Blue Moon. He was 5′0″.

Lorenz was the son of Frieda and Max Meyer Hertz/Hart, a business promoter. His parents were German Jewish immigrants; his father moved to the U.S. around 1880, from Hamburg, and his mother around 1885. His brother, Teddy Hart, was a musical comedy start. He was raised attending German and Yiddish theatre in New York.

Lorenz’s paternal grandfather was named Israel Meyer Hertz.

Lorenz’s paternal grandmother was named Teubchen/Tauba Heÿne. Teubchen’s uncle was said to have been German poet, writer, and literary critic Heinrich Heine. Heinrich was born Harry Heine in Düsseldorf, Duchy of Berg, Holy Roman Empire, the son of Jewish parents, Samson Sigmund Itzchak Heine, a textile merchant, and Pierche/Peiere/Peira Zipora “Betty” van Geldern, whose own father was Gottschalk van Geldern, a physician.

Lorenz’s maternal grandfather was named Benjamin Isenberg.

Lorenz’s maternal grandmother was named Sophia/Sophie Moses.
