Kid Cudi, also credited as Scott Mescudi and KiD CuDi, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, fashion designer, and actor. He is known for his tracks “Day N Nite” and “Make Her Say,” from his debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day. Cudi has a unique style, which could be described as alternative hip-hop, with some rock influence. He is associated with artists like Kanye West and Common. He is a member of alternative rock band and record production team WZRD and hip hop duo The Scotts, the latter with Travis Scott. He was previously part of hip-hop superduo Kids See Ghosts, with Kanye West.
His father, Lindberg Styles Mescudi, had Mexican and African-American ancestry. His mother, Elsie Harriet (Banks), is African-American, originally from Tennessee. Both of Kid’s paternal grandparents were listed as being black on U.S. Censuses.
Kid is married to designer Lola Abecassis Sartore. He has a daughter.
Kid’s paternal grandfather was Charles Manitow Mescudi (the son of Joseph Mescudi and Reina/Vaira Escudero/Escudara). Charles was born in either San Luis PotosÃ, Mexico or Albuquerque, Bernalillo, New Mexico. It is likely that Charles was of mixed Mexican-African ancestry.
Kid’s paternal grandmother was Essie Viola Lawson (the daughter of Ephraim/Epriam/Ephream/Ephriam Lawson and Flora/Floretta Swaney/Sweeney/Sweeny). Essie was black, and was born in Franklin, Venango, Pennsylvania, to a Canadian-born father and a Pennsylvania-born mother.

Charles Mescudi’s birthplace is listed as Mexico in his marriage registration (provided by bablah), draft registrations, 2 of his children’s death certificates, and the 1920 census. Regarding the marriage registration, his birthplace is listed specifically as St. Louis, Mexico. This is probably a mispronunciation of San Luis PotosÃ, Mexico. Also, looking at other examples of the writer’s handwriting, it seems Charles’ mother’s name was Reina Escudero. “Vaira” is typically a Latvian or Italian name. I could find only one Hispanic who ever lived with that name and they are alive currently. “Escudara” and “Escudera” are not names that I could find anywhere. The writer appears to have written as Escudera/o but it should be Escudero.
