His roles include the films Spy Hard, The Nutty Professor (1996), and its sequel; Ride with the Devil; D-War, 9 Bullets, Gatlopp, Murder at Yellowstone City, and The Blind (2023); the shows Madman of the People, You Wish, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, Bosch, Sneaky Pete, The Act, Runaways, and MacGyver, and the made-for-tv movie Uprising.

His surname was originally spelled Alevizakis. His father was born in Montana, and had Greek ancestry. His mother likely is also of Greek descent. He is married to actress Wendy Gazelle, with whom he has one child.

John’s paternal grandfather was named John Panayiotes Alevizakes/Alevizakis (the son of Peter “Panayiotes” Alevizakes). John was Greek, from Kalamata.

John’s paternal grandmother was Theodora “Dora” Giatayanas/Giatagana (the daughter of Loukas Giatagana and Maria Stourios). Theodora was born in Almyros, Greece.
